Flying w/Paddle(s)
For those who fly with paddles, how do you pack them, and do you check them or carry them on? I’m primarily curious about traveling with a single paddle, but I’d also love to hear how coaches manage carrying paddles for a whole team.

Boat dollies/carts
Different sort of question today: For those of you who store your boats on land and need to launch, what kind of carts/dollies do you use, and what kind of terrain are you traversing? Specifically interested in wheel type/size, but all details welcome.

Caveat: we only store on land for the winter, so the boats are moved twice annually. Terrain: up/down hill, mix of gravel, mulch, dirt and tar. Dolly Specs: 4 casters. 10 inches in size from Harbor Freight. Two swivel and two non swivel casters. Each has a 300lb working load. So the dolly has a 1200lb limit. The frame is constructed out of 2x4 lumber and lag screws. And covered with wood preservative. We ratchet strap around the dolly and center of the boat. And have team members standing along side as we push the boat.

Looking for ideas: Coach perks & incentives
We want to better appreciate our coaching staff and are exploring options for a "perks package". Does your team offer coach incentives (e.g., discounted memberships, covered race fees, gear allowances)? What has your team found most meaningful or effective? Thanks!

@Liisa Reimann Senior coaches would hold expectations for coaches/assistants. And senior coaches are accountable to the board. We do not have a “head coach”.

@Ginny Moran thanks for your input! We too are currently 100% volunteer based, and likely won’t change that. But we do want a way to meaningful thank/appreciate the coaches! In years past we’ve done physical gifts like athletic slides with our logo and jackets with “coach name” embroidered on them, with varied success. For example, the slides ended up being uncomfortable and went unused. So we are looking for alternatives that aren’t wasteful. For folks following along, other offline suggestions have been: cover 1/all race fees, or provide a educational stipend where coaches can apply the funds to courses like the steering one here on Skool or towards a camp/clinic (something that helps them as coaches develop)
What was your biggest takeaway from the summit?
WHAT. A. DAY!!! Thank you all for coming to the Virtual Summit today - this fledgling event really exceeded our expectations! So many of you kept showing up session after session, engaged thoughtfully, asked stellar questions — thank you. And extra thank yous to @Megan Roberts and @Anne Baker for generously sharing their time and expertise with us. We all learned so much from you! Replays will be available soon, and we'll be sending you a proper feedback form too, but in the meantime, would love to know your biggest takeaway from the day. Did something land in an unexpected way? Did you have a big aha? Tell us in the comments.

We all know dragon boating has a strong mental component. A few mental aspects emerged during our sessions that I want to consider more: - Supporter Buy-In: We need to find ways to engage with supporters and loved ones. This is especially important for paddlers with families who are sacrificing time away from other obligations to practice. - Setting the Tone for Video Review: Without the right framing, people can spiral when they see themselves performing poorly. When working on a new skill, other aspects of their technique might temporarily fall apart. We should remind athletes to give themselves grace until they can integrate all components together. - Training for Adversity: We must train for adversity so that when things go wrong on race day, our athletes push through and do their best with the circumstances, rather than getting stuck thinking, "this is unfair."
New here? Welcome!!
We're so excited to have you here in Dragon Boat Skool!! Not sure how this space works, how to navigate it, or WTF is the deal with the leaderboards? Here's what to do first: 1️⃣ Click the little "Like" or 👍 button below this post. This shows us you've read it and hopefully starts getting you into a habit of liking other people's posts, so that those people then like YOUR posts. Why does that matter? Because each like you get gives you 1 point on the leaderboard. This helps you level up and will eventually unlock special bonuses and classroom offers for you. 2️⃣ Say "hey!" below. Let us know who you are and where you paddle/steer/coach/drum/order people about 🤣. 3️⃣ Click that "Classroom" button at the top of your screen. Then look for the "course" that says "Welcome to Skool." You'll get a quick orientation in there!

@Liisa Reimann We are trying to go to the Montreal Challenge, but are struggling to fill our roster, so may not make it. Otherwise we'll be in Hartford CT and Laconia NH!

@Liisa Reimann we are in contact with the race producers and several teams to try to fill the boat. Is that what you mean, or something else?
