Bottles are here!
Check out the video in the Classroom section on the basics of making a bottle on the potters wheel. If you have any questions or comments about the process drop them here and we can workshop them together. I can always clarify things or make more videos!

You make it look so easy! I can’t even make anything on the wheel yet. Not sure if it’s my wheel, the clay I’m using, or the fact that my arm is almost useless (still recovering). How do you know what size to make the top so it fits the pump inside? How much do you allow for shrinkage? And the thing you use to smooth out the rim…what is that and where do you get it? I see everyone using that. But can’t figure out what it is.

@Trey Foster ok good to know! I’ll have to attempt this sometime. Car washing towel…got it!! Cool.
Welcome to Clay with Trey!
First off, thank you for being here! My hope is to help you grow as an artist, no matter what level you’re at. Introduce yourself here so we can all get to know each other, and so I can start to custom tailor the content just for you! Tell us a little about yourself and the type of art you make (or want to make).

@Trey Foster yeah it was a crazy idea to start when I did. Lol. But it also made me want to get better so I could start making stuff. Right now I’m making tic tac toe boards for all my grown kids. Here’s a question…what do you do with the left over clay from rolling out and cutting things out. I have just been sticking it back into the clay bag. But some sits out for a bit and geta a bit hard. How to make it useable again?

@Trey Foster SWEET!! Thanks!!
What to Expect
Welp here we are. An online pottery class and community is a bit difficult to explain but I'm going to try and explain my dreams for what this looks like and I would love your input. It all breaks down into 3 things: Instruction, Inspiration, and Community. First, I love teaching ceramics. I think I might enjoy teaching more than I enjoy making at times, and I really want to create a space where instruction is natural and actually helpful. My assumption is that if you are here, you are in one of two groups: You work with clay at home and are missing out on some more personal teaching and interactions, or you might be working in a community studio but want to supplement that time with some more instruction and feedback. My hope is to provide that instruction in a way that is scalable for all skill levels. I'll be on here every day answering questions as quickly as I can, and even providing some videos to help you accomplish what you are hoping to. Second, I don't want to bore you or try and convince you to make projects you don't want. My hope is that this space lights a fire in you that drives you to create beautiful things. So I will be showing you all kinds of work that hopefully sparks some creativity for you and gets you making your best stuff. And lastly, I want participants. I could have just posted all of this stuff to Youtube and checked out, but I genuinely want to know you and your art. I want you to become friends with the people that you meet on here and help each other. I want this to be a place that you can go and feel like you have people that support you and care for you. TLDR: I hope you enjoy this space. I hope its informative and helpful, I hope it drives you to create great things, and I hope you feel like you are part of a community. So I want to know- What do you want out of this? What are your hopes? Your goals?

I would also love to know how to make a soap dispenser too! I want to know about glazes and how to make them myself.

I’m an artist all the way around. I’m a photographer, a crafter, a muralist, and a potter. I recently got back into pottery and am looking to learn.
