New BBQ for my mom… and our first recipe was a 100% success! šŸ”„šŸ—
Last Friday, we went out and bought a brand new Napoleon TravelQ for my mom. She wanted something simple, compact, and easy to use… and honestly, this little BBQ already exceeded our expectations! Today, I showed her how to use it by cooking a batch of Kansas-seasoned chicken drumsticks, with a little touch of Booster at the end. We did a nice indirect cook, low and steady, and it gave us juicy, perfectly browned drumsticks full of flavor. She was so proud — and especially happy to see how easy her new BBQ is to master. In fact, she already wants to make the recipe again tomorrow! šŸ˜„šŸ”„ First test of the TravelQ = total success.

Really nice 😊
Cold smoked salmon
Here is my salmon that I made cold smoked over the weekend. I just finished cutting it and I'm vacuum packing it to put it in the freezer until Christmas. I will use it to make beautiful little appetizers.

Pulled Pork… in Shepherd’s Pie?! 😱
I was told it was a royal crime to use such good pulled pork in a ā€œsimpleā€ shepherd’s pie. Well… They went back for seconds. And according to them, it was the best shepherd’s pie they’ve ever eaten. šŸ˜…šŸ”„ Tonight I used the pulled pork I made on Tuesday and turned it into the ultimate comfort dish: • layer of creamed corn, • juicy pulled pork, • whole-kernel corn, • buttery mashed potatoes, • baked just enough to get a perfect golden top. Result: it disappeared faster than I expected. Turns out… even a ā€œBBQ sacrilegeā€ can be a damn good idea. šŸ˜‚

I Thought My Probes Were Broken… Until I Found the Real Problem 🤣
This morning, I was convinced my temperature probes were done for. In the oven at 280°F, one was reading 303°F and the other 284°F. Even worse, in boiling water one showed 167°F… and the other 206°F. 😳 I was this close to throwing them out. But luckily, I did one last test: I simply swapped the probes into the opposite ports… and boom! Both instantly read 212°F in boiling water. šŸ«ØšŸ”„ Conclusion: the probes weren’t the problem — the receiver/ports were giving weird readings. Good thing I tested them by switching ports, or I would’ve thrown away two perfectly good probes! Moral of the story: āž”ļø Always test each probe in each port before declaring a probe dead. āž”ļø Boiling water never lies. šŸ˜‰
