New Books!
Good morning, bookworms! I finished reading a book this morning, and wanted to quickly gush. Have any of you read "Awake" by Jen Hatmaker? I have known of Jen Hatmaker for years because of Glennon Doyle. There is the beautiful community of women-who-write that Glennon and Jen are both in, with Brené Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Cheryl Strayed, among others, that I have been following for a time. This book by Jen Hatmaker was different for me, a memoir. I typically read in the realm of escapism. I try my hardest to enter into other worlds to escape my own, but for some reason I felt the need to read this new book by Hatmaker- and boy am I glad that I did. While there is no real, understandable, and obvious connection that I could make to this book about her divorce, I felt so connected to her story. Her journey of reentering her body and reevaluating everything she has always known was something so beautiful for me. I definitely suggest reading it. She has a way of making you laugh, and also, putting into words things that I have always felt alone in. Also, she reads the audiobook, and includes voice memos and recordings from her podcasts and friends when she references them- so cool!

I loved this book also! I’d never heard of her but read a review of it and got it at the library. In college, “The Awakening,” by Kate Chopin was a memorable book about finding female power! A century-ish later, this is a similar story…. Powerful and inspiring 💕
How's it going?!
Howdy pals! We are currently halfway (🤯) through November! How is your practice? Are you making time for yourself? What does that look like for you? A little look behind the curtain here: November has been a month of reconnecting to my body. I have done a couple of months of gentle movements and slow flows- but this month I decided to really push myself. You will be able to see that in the videos as I breathe heavily, fall out of postures, and take modifications. I never want to post these videos and act as some sort of superhuman who can do all postures with ease and grace like all of those people on YouTube. Instead, I just wanted to create a place where we can all just show up as ourselves. Tired, covered in breast milk, and on the mat nonetheless. I hope that you are giving yourself grace this month. So, I ask again, how's it going?

Cara, I love what you share. It’s so raw and real. And inspired! My journal this month has a theme: kindness as a form of gratitude. Towards self…. Filling your tank (putting on your oxygen mask first on the plane thing :)) I actually returned to the journal entry we did in your class where we named our inner critic.. mine was Nellie. Then we named our inner champ: mine is: Gloria. (A girl who I was wildly jealous of as a child who totally embodied that name!!) This focus on internal kindness is helping me thru a challenging chapter. Sorry this is so long. But, selfishness has its place. A healthy amount is fortifying. Have a beautiful day.:::
