🧶 What’s on Your Hook Right Now?
Let’s see what everyone is working on this week! Are you currently crocheting: 🔹 A mosaic overlay blanket 🔹 A cushion or smaller project 🔹 One of my patterns 🔹 Designing your own mosaic chart 🔹 Something completely different Drop a photo or comment below and tell us: ✨ What project is it? ✨ What colours are you using ✨ Whether it's going well… or fighting you 😅 I’ll jump in and comment on a few projects too! Let’s fill this discussion with some mosaic inspiration 🧶

I'm finishing up the border on an overlay mosaic baby blanket, reversible. The pattern is "My Precious Baby Boy" by BebaBlanket. My colors are Denim and Elephant Grey by Pound of Love. I started it in January, but got distracted with other quick-and-easy projects to break things up (I'm pretty sure I have ADHD). I should have it finished in just a few hours. My sidetrack projects have been bowl cozies, dishcloths, scrubbies and lately C2C granny stitch and C2C JAYG using my stash and remnants. It's sometimes nice work on something that doesn't require a pattern or chart. 😁

@Angela Bolster Yes, I too get bored with regular crochet if I work at it too long. I think that's why I jumped into overlay mosaic full on for the last couple years. I do like to learn and take on a different challenge occasionally. That's another reason I took after mosaic crochet -- the challenge.
What Makes This Work?
One of the things that separates a good mosaic overlay design from a great one is how the image reads from a distance. Looking at the Moonlit Winter Stag design, I deliberately kept the stag silhouette bold and simplified so it remains clear when worked in stitches. 👀 Your turn: When you look at a mosaic design, what do you think makes the image work well? Is it: • Strong contrast between colours • Clean outlines • Simplicity of shapes • The spacing around the motif • Something else? Designing mosaic patterns is often about what you leave out as much as what you include. I’d love to hear your thoughts — especially if you've ever had a chart that looked great on screen but didn't translate well in crochet. Angela The Pattern Scribe

I like a strong contrast between background and pattern focus also. When something gets too busy with variegated colors and the background, it loses me. I do like variegated or color-changing yarns worked with a strong background color, as long as there is good contrast for a crisp appearance.

🌺 Introducing Heritage Poppies 🌺
Heritage Poppies was created to honour remembrance, resilience, and enduring gratitude. Bold poppy motifs rise from structured geometric borders, creating a blanket that feels powerful yet respectful — a true statement piece with meaning stitched into every row. This design is worked primarily one colour per row using the mosaic overlay technique, with a third colour added using the Tapestry Method for the poppies. The structure is rhythmic and satisfying, and as the rows build, the imagery gradually emerges. It’s especially rewarding for confident crocheters who love bold, intentional design. ✨ Finished size: approx. 48” x 66” ✨ Full written instructions + complete charts ✨ US terminology ✨ Intermediate–Advanced ✨ Can also be made in two colours Whether you choose traditional red poppies or interpret the design in your own colourway, this piece is designed to feel personal, thoughtful, and timeless. The pattern is now available as a digital PDF download: Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/heritage-poppies Etsy: https://thepatternscribe.etsy.com/uk/listing/4462861527/mosaic-overlay-crochet-poppy-blanket Website: https://payhip.com/b/Pg2Rh If you have any questions about construction or colour placement — drop them below 👇 Angela The Pattern Scribe 🌿
