Hello and welcome — I’m so glad you’re here 💛 If you’re new to this space, this post will help you get the most out of the community (and point you in the right direction). 🧶 What this community is for This is a friendly, supportive space for crocheters who: - Love (or want to learn) mosaic overlay crochet - Enjoy charts, colour play, and thoughtful design - Want to grow confidence — whether you’re following patterns or designing your own You don’t need to be an expert. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are more than enough. 📌 How to use this community To keep things easy (and not overwhelming), I’ve organised posts into categories: - 🧵 Mosaic Basics – help with techniques, stitches, and foundations - 📊 Charts & Reading Help – understanding charts, overlays, and layout - 🎨 Colourways & Design Talk – colour choices, borders, and design decisions - 🪡 WIP & Progress Shares – show what you’re working on (wins and struggles welcome!) - 🛍 Pattern Links & Resources – where I keep links to my patterns and useful extras 👉 Tip: Click a category to quickly find what you need. 🪡 A little about me I’m Angela — a mosaic overlay crochet designer and the person behind The Pattern Scribe. I design detailed, chart-led patterns and love breaking down why things work, not just how to follow them. This community is where I share: - Behind-the-scenes design thoughts - Sneak peeks and WIPs - Tips that don’t always make it into patterns 🛍 Looking for my patterns? You’ll find links collected neatly in the Pattern Links & Resources category. I’ll also occasionally mention them in context when people ask — no hard selling here. 🎓 What’s coming next As this community grows, I’ll also be adding: - Deeper learning posts - Mini trainings around charts and design logic - Early access and input on future resources 💬 How to get involved (optional but encouraged!) If you’d like to introduce yourself, feel free to comment below and tell us:

@Amy Ambrozich Hi 😊 Mosaic overlay can feel a little confusing at first, but once it clicks, it really does make sense! The key thing to know is that you only work with one colour per row. So you’re not juggling multiple yarns at the same time — you simply switch colours at the end of each row. That’s what makes it much more manageable than it first looks. To get started, I’d really recommend choosing a simple 2-colour pattern. It helps you focus on the technique itself (front loop vs back loop stitches, reading the chart, etc.) without adding extra complexity. A lovely beginner-friendly one I’d suggest is the Happy Hive pattern — it’s clear, structured, and a great introduction to mosaic overlay:👉 https://payhip.com/b/yVx3q Once you’ve done one like that, everything else starts to fall into place much more easily. Shout if you need help getting started — I’m always happy to guide you through it
🧶 Ever Thought About a Custom Crochet Design? 👀
A while ago, someone messaged me and said: “I don’t know if this is even possible… but could you turn this into a crochet design?” It was something really personal to them — not something you’d ever find in a standard pattern. And honestly? Those are my favourite kinds of projects 💛 We chatted through the idea, what they wanted it to feel like, how it would actually work as a mosaic overlay… Because not everything that looks good as an image works as a crochet design — it has to be translated properly so the stitches make sense 👀 Then came the process: ✏️ Mapping out the design 🧮 Building the chart 🧵 Testing how the stitches sit 🔁 Tweaking (always tweaking 😅) Until it wasn’t just an idea anymore… It was a real, workable pattern they could actually crochet. And that’s the bit I love most —taking something that feels like “just an idea” and turning it into something tangible 🧶 Something you can make, gift, keep… or even pass down. If you’ve ever looked at something and thought: “I wish I could crochet that…” You probably can 👀 I do take on custom design projects — and I’m always happy to chat through ideas (even if you’re not sure yet). Just drop me a message or comment below 👇

Small Wins Matter ✨
Not every crochet session has to be a full project finish. (Tell me how I know 😀) Sometimes a win is: ✔️ Understanding a row ✔️ Fixing a mistake ✔️ Actually starting 😅 What’s your small win this week?

Why your mosaic edges look messy (and how to fix it)
If your mosaic overlay edges are looking a bit… wobbly 👀it’s usually not your stitches—it’s your edge consistency. The fix? 👉 Keep your stitch placement consistent along the row ends 👉 Don’t guess—count your rows and match your spacing This one small tweak makes a HUGE difference to your finish. In the paid classroom hub, (only $5) I go deeper into this (and show exactly how to fix it step-by-step) — but try this first and tell me if it helps 👇

Well… it’s been a long weekend here in the UK🐣
Tell me I’m not the only one who’s completely lost track of what day it is?! 😅 Between Easter chocolate, family time, and “I’ll just do a quick bit of crochet”… (we all know how that ends 👀)… It’s been one of those weekends! So I’m curious… 👉 Did you get any stitching time in? 👉 Start something new… or still side-eyeing that WIP pile? 😅👉 Or did you actually take a proper break? I’ve been having a little think over the weekend too… about how much I love seeing what you’re all creating, helping when you get stuck, and those little “aha!” moments when something just clicks. And it’s exactly why I created the Mosaic Overlay Crochet Hub. Inside there, it’s a bit more… ✨ in-depth✨ step-by-step ✨ proper support as you go …rather than just the quick bits we can do here. If you’ve ever thought: 👉 “I wish I properly understood mosaic overlay” 👉 “I want to feel more confident reading charts” 👉 “I’d love a bit more guidance as I go…” …then you’d absolutely love it in there. No pressure at all — just wanted to open the door for you. BUT for now… Tell me 👇What’s currently on your hook right now? 🧶
