What's The Cost Of Misunderstanding?
Tonight's conversation was raw. I told a vulnerable story about a time with my dad. Something happened almost 30 years, but I still remember as if it was yesterday. Me, my dad, and my younger brother, were sitting on the back steps. My dad was telling us a story on a warm summer night. The stars were shining bright. As he told the story, my imagination took over. I was getting immersed in the story, and I let out a sigh of relaxation I was like, "sighhhhh" When my dad heard that sigh," he interpreted it as I was being bored. So he said, "Is my story boring you? Then go take your a$$ in the house." Now imagine how I felt for being yelled at over a positive sigh. For being imaginative. This was a misunderstanding. This happened maybe 30 years ago, and I remember that night like it was yesterday. What's the cost of a misunderstanding? What's the cost of making assumptions? How do you want your child to remember you? Also, we discussed ways to approach sibling fights, strong-willed kids, and how to discipline without being passive. Comment below: Where might you be misunderstanding your child? When has your parents misunderstood you? Thank you to @Christina Jones & @Tim Tindle for contributing to the conversation. Btw, I'm hosting a free webinar this Wednesday for parents who want to enjoy time with your kids making good memories...not yelling and losing your cool. You gotta have the story in text too, so you have it for people to read also

@Devin Trent it's not the same as the story or the value in a written post, that is meant to be read as a post. Powerful story there, just saying. Express in different ways, shapes, and forms.
FREE WEBINAR TO MAKE BETTER PARENT-CHILD MEMORIES
Get your kid to listen without yelling or repeating yourself. I'm running a free webinar this Wednesday April 1st for parents who are tired of: - Yelling - Repeating yourself - Losing your cool and want your kid to listen the first time you tell them something. This is A BRAND NEW EXPERIENCE. Different from our previous Town Halls, but similar. After Wednesday's webinar, I'll be launching a 4-week private program for deeper parenting support. Even if you don't join anything I'm launching, you'll still leave Wednesday's webinar with the #1 thing I tell every parent to be aware of. And why your kid will listen from understanding, not from control...but only after you make this one shift. (I'll reveal the shift on the webinar) Here's what this is really about: Your child isn't broken. And you're not a bad parent. But nobody taught you how to speak their language. And that gap is what causes the yelling, the repeating, the frustration, and ultimately the guilt of losing your cool...when you know they're just kids. I know because I've seen it. And I've helped parents fix it. Here's what two parents I've worked with had to say: Christina J. โ€œInstead of getting angry and forcing herโ€ฆ I asked whyโ€ฆ and that one question changed the whole situation. Rochelle W. "โ€œThis has helped me meet him where he is instead of just reacting the way I was raised.โ€ Watch their full stories below๐Ÿ‘‡ So if you know theirs a gap between what you tell your kid to do and what they actually do, then comment "PARENT" below and tell me you're interested in the free webinar. Do you know another parent who wants more love & respect from their kid? And less yelling & guilt? If so, please share this free webinar with them. Can't make it live? No worries, I'm recording it - DM me and I'll send you the replay.
