Say Goodbye to Default Semantic Models
I don't know if anyone else is excited about the deprecation of Default Semantic Models, but I surely am. We NEVER use them and always build our own for various reason. I love that they are going away and will no longer clutter up our workspaces. How does everyone else feel? Anyone here actually use them for production? What will the future of creating semantic modeling look llke? Do you think it will be more user friendly on the web, more CD / Devops friendly, Or More AI Friendly?
Using ChatGPT/ LLMs for learning Fabric (be careful!)
I get it, it's an attractive proposition. Type any technical question into a chat window and get an instant response. Unfortunately (at the moment), it's not quite as simple as that. I think we all know that ChatGPT & other large language models (LLMs) can hallucinate, i.e. confidently giving you answers that: - are wrong - are misleading - were maybe right 6 months ago, but now the answer is irrelevant/ not accurate. With Fabric, they are a few factors that increase the likelihood of hallucinations, that you need to be very aware of: - Fabric is fast moving - things change weekly, monthly. Therefore a feature/ method/ piece of documentation that was used in the last LLM training run 6 months ago, might no longer be relevant, or new features have superseded previous approaches. - Fabric is the evolution of previous Microsoft data products. This is good in some ways, but catastrophic for LLMs (and learners relying on LLMs). There is vastly more training data out on the internet for Azure Data Factory, for example, than Fabric Data Factory. Or Azure Synapse Data Engineering over Fabric Data Engineering. And yes there are similarities for how the old tools work vs the new tools, but you need to be super careful that the LLM generates a response for FABRIC Data Pipelines, rather than Azure Data Factory pipelines, for example. Or generates Fabric Data Warehouse compliant T-SQL code, rather than Azure SQL code. This is very difficult, unless you have knowledge of how both products work (which most learners/ beginners don't!). I'm not saying don't use LLMs for studying, just that you need to be super careful. I can think of two use cases that are lower risk, using LLM+Fabric for Spark syntax & KQL syntax generation. That's because Spark and KQL are very mature ecosystems, with lots of training data on the internet, and their syntax won't change too much over the months and years. Fabric Data Warehouse T-SQL code generation is more tricky/ risky because the way the Fabric Data Warehouse works is quite different to a conventional SQL Server (which is what most of the training data will be based on).

I agree, a lot of time it uses Azure Synapse or Azure Data factory. If you can use a Rag model that quiries microsoft fabrics docs that wuld be great, but hands on knowledge using the docs is best for now.
DP-700 Open Book or not?
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/certifications/resources/study-guides/dp-700 From this link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/certifications/fabric-data-engineer-associate/?practice-assessment-type=certification#two-ways-to-prepare It says it not open book? “Exam policy This exam will be proctored, and is **not** open book. You may have interactive components to complete as part of this exam. To learn more about exam duration and experience, visit: Exam duration and exam experience. ” It this true, because I thought you could use Microsoft Learn during the exam?

[DP-700] Official Practice Questions for DP-700
Hey everyone, just a quick one - Microsoft have released the official Practice Questions for the DP-700: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/certifications/fabric-data-engineer-associate/?practice-assessment-type=certification#certification-practice-for-the-exam If you're studying for the DP-700 exam, I definitely recommend testing your knowledge using this official resource!

How do this question compare to Measureup ones once they come out? Thanks
DP-700 - what's the plan?!
Hey everyone - yesterday the DP-700 exam became generally available, PLUS Microsoft announced 20,000 50% off vouchers to take the exam... so you might be wondering, what's the plan?! With the previous DP-600 exam, we managed to help hundreds, or maybe even thousands of you certified, which is awesome! And for the DP-700, I have plans to go even bigger! Therefore, this is a summary of what's planned: 📽️ Like with the DP-600 exam, I will be producing videos for the YouTube channel to walk you through each section of the DP-700 study guide - these videos will also be added to the Classroom here in the LMF community, and discussion posts made for conversations about the topics! I hope to start releasing these in the next few weeks. As well as the videos, this time, I'll also be hosting a DP-700 bootcamp (from 19th Jan to 30th March) within Fabric Dojo for those that want more support, this includes: - Access to 11 LIVE (online) study sessions held between 19th Jan and 30th March - Access to summary study notes for each section of the exam. - Plus, as a member of Fabric Dojo, you will get access to the 90+ hands-on tutorials and projects in the Dojo, 60 of which are relevant for DP-700 learning. Practical experience really makes a difference when you're sitting the exam. This is what I spent 6 months working on last year! It's nearly 30 hours of exclusive content and hands-on learning related to Fabric Data Engineering and Analytics Engineering.

In one of the documentations I noticed it says Get Certified: DP-700 Data Engineer, from Synapse to Fabric. This means Synapse is still alive.

@Will Needham ahh that make sense. I did take the Dp-203 years ago and passed. I am glad they’re a fabric one. One think I like about fabric is it decouples a bit of the cloud engineeering for a data engineering role. That is having to do initial steps to get storage, go to the market place get DataBricks, then data factory and connecting it all together. I know you can use terra form to do this as well, but fabric workspace work similar to how power bi workspaces worked, and for me that a huge win. I still do agree that it depends on the type of project, and azure data bricks and azure data factory or azure data factory with apache airflow may be better choice. But all in all fabric in the coming years may turn out to be great. Maybe they will add vector database support for Rag support.
