A Gentle Breakthrough
I didn’t realize it at the time, but one of my quiet breakthroughs came when long-held holiday traditions changed. What I thought I was grieving was a holiday. What I was actually learning was how meaning travels. It isn’t bound to a date on the calendar. It lives in the rituals we carry forward. The walks. The calls. The showing up, again and again, even as the shape changes. Some years are loud and full. Some are quiet and improvised. Some get postponed until February. All of them count. I’m curious, and I’d love to hear from you: What holiday tradition in your life has changed shape, and what has stayed at its core?

A Christmas Eve tradition in my childhood family (without naming it as a tradition ) was to go get a Eucalyptus branch large enough for a Christmas tree . So being summer at Christmas in Australia the smell of the eucalyptus becomes stronger in the week following Christmas. My husband suggested this year we start a tradition of getting an olive branch , a symbol of peace. It looks pretty. I did need to pull the single branches up and tie them with twine which was enjoyable and a peaceful, mindful practice in itself. At first my 12 year old son was not so happy about it and wanted a plastic one from the shop but I think he was happy with the olive tree after all. Last year we used a magnolia tree . ( in a pot) .

Where Did You Find Peace This Week?
I know I'm not the only person always keeping an eye out to find or cultivate joy in my daily life, and that is a wonderful practice. But where do you find your peace, and even better, did you maybe discover a little peace in an unexpected place? For me the two can go hand in hand, but also hold very distinct experiences. I found joy in noticing the vibrant birdsong while walking through a parking lot yesterday, and unexpected peace soon after (sharing in the comments!).

The gratitude/joy made me feel peace; that I was just appreciating my son instead of thinking of what he should be doing .

Power of Silence (Mojo Monday Challenge 16)
Have you ever taken a vow of silence? What if I were to tell you silence is one of the greatest access points to calm the mind? As I attend my 3rd 10 Day Vipassana Silent Meditation Retreat this Wednesday, this week's challenge is to take a vow of silence for any period of time that works. Ideally it's at least a full day if not 2 days, but a half day for a few hours could work. MOJO MONDAY CHALLENGE 16: 1. Watch the video below on how to take a Vow of Silence/Silent Retreat. If you accept this challenge, comment below WHEN you'll take your retreat, where, and for how long. 2. Let us know how last week went for Mojo Monday Week 15 here. 3. Comment on 2 people's posts and support them!

Thankful Thursday
Time for some gratitude. What is a single food that you couldn't live without? Let's be grateful for what fills our plates when so many people on this Earth go hungry.

@Jeff Condron I love blueberries too Jeff , and I’m staying at my sisters place for the weekend and today we ate blueberries from her garden. She said she recently ate a stack of them snd it cleared a cough she picked up when travelling.

I love most foods too , I’m pretty excited about the fresh broad beans my sister and I picked from her garden today. I am always happy about bonsoy brand soy milk. I’m so glad that I have access to it, because the other brands I’ve tried don’t compare . And not that I have it very much at all but I super love honey on toast. With tea, leaf tea.
