Resumes anyone?
I’m not quite 40 yet, 39 currently, and I have certainly seen this major shift. It’s almost as if having more than 7 years experience on a resume is creating an impossible hurdle now. Despite any accolades or accomplishments. I’ve heard more, ā€œyou’re over qualifiedā€¦ā€ and ā€œwe’re looking for experience in ā€˜toasters’ do you have that?ā€ And that’s if I hear anything at all. So, here’s my resume attached. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6410cc7a7b2f865e04a2ef0e/t/692df304070d421b4326fc2d/1764619012529/ChrisWojcicki-Resume.pdf Ive removed all design elements from it so it’s just a straight forward black and white resume. Of which I’ve also been told by many at this point, that this is the way to go. Curious about people’s thoughts, comments, and I’d be interested and happy to review anyone else’s that is willing to share.

Definitely substance over style. Also, I agree with Tim Donza and would add: lead with the result. The recruiter or hiring manager is skimming. You don't want them to pass you by because they decided to just read the first few words in the bullet point and your "good stuff" is at the end. Example fix: "Increased brand awareness by 30% with new customers by partnering with the marketing director of QuantAQ to develop brand guides; create marketing assets, event and presentation templates; and direct mail kits."

I was going to start charging $9 a month once we hit a certain number. Lock in the free members, then monetize the growth. That was the plan. But here's the thing: we're all here for the same reason. We're broke. We're struggling. We're trying to rebuild while the system tells us we're too old, too expensive, too whatever. Charging you to be part of a community where we're all fighting the same fight feels wrong. So I'm not doing it. This group stays free. Period. Everyone who's here now has lifetime access. Everyone who joins later gets the same deal. No bait and switch. No "limited time offer" bullshit. Maybe down the road I'll add a premium tier with personal coaching or 1-on-1 calls for people who want that. But the core community? Always free. Now here's what I need from you: What would make this group actually worth your time? What would help you the most right now? - More structure? Weekly challenges? Frameworks? - Specific guides on freelancing, consulting, starting a business? - Job leads and opportunities we can share? - Resume reviews and interview prep? - Accountability groups? - Guest speakers who've been through this? - Something else I'm not thinking of? I built this place because I was tired of being invisible. Tired of watching people like us get rejected, ghosted, and told we don't matter. But this only works if it's actually useful. If it helps you get somewhere. So tell me: what do you need? Drop a comment. Be honest. Be specific. We're building this together. Let's make it something that actually moves the needle.

@Melissa Gill I second your idea for a discussion dedicated to freelancing. I've been thinking of freelancing for data entry/proofreading maybe editing, but I don't know where to start, how to create a portfolio, or how to market myself to get clients.

@Marie Alm I too would like to see everything on your list, including career pivots. Or, in my case, mostly industry pivots. It seems like right now it's impossible to break into new industries, even when the employer offers training. I would like to get into the healthcare field but my previous experience has been with editorial services and nonprofits (non-medical).
