What do you want to get out of the community (September)?
Hey Everybody, New month! So new goals I know for me, I have had this big realization that AI is just genuinely not that difficult to use. I guess I am very deep in the bubble of people who play with it a ton. But increasingly, I am becoming more convinced that the real skills I want to focus on mastering are my construction management skills. So trying to do more content on construction projects and businesses. The skills that actually matter. The thing I find hard is that AI is such a massive buzzword that any video I do with AI in the title does well. I'm tryin to balance that with the topic that I think really has a huge amount of depth and complexity to it which is Construction. I did this video and was really happy with it. This is more the style of content I want to be doing What are your goals for September?

My goals for September are to Fully Refine our Estimating Workflows to be as efficient as possible and scalable. Your videos have been a great help, the AI videos are great but the Non AI Construction Business videos are my favorites.

@Tim Fairley Absolutely. One topic I think would be really valuable as a GC is relationship building and owner interactions specifically how contractors can consistently generate new opportunities, build list of repeat clients and win work. It would be great to hear your perspective on the best ways for a construction firm to get itself out there, build relationships with A/E firms, developers, owners, and other potential clients, and stay in front of the people you want to work with. Basically, beyond just bidding projects, how do successful contractors build a network and business development strategy that leads to consistent work?
What estimating software do you use?
There are five categories of tools we need to think about for estimating: - Take-off software - Estimating software - Document management - CRM and bid tracking - AI tools Some platforms do all of them, some only do one small, specific thing. Do I think you need five expensive construction-specific platforms? No. A smaller contractor could cover most of this with a purpose-built take-off tool, Excel, SharePoint or Google Drive, a simple CRM, and Claude or ChatGPT. As your team grows, dedicated estimating software or an all-in-one platform might make more sense. The important thing is choosing tools that suit your process and let you export your data. I broke down the different options in this video: https://youtu.be/AyL3tXCtz18 What does your current estimating stack look like? Which tools would you recommend?

I used to use On-Screen Takeoff & Quickbid, I liked it but found a new Estimating software made by the creator of OST and Quickbid called "Buzzbid" It's geared toward div 9 contractors but i've made it useful for General Contracting Estimating, I have hundereds of General Assemblies, it has quoting capabilities, Work in progress tracking and so much more I highly recommend.
