Curious - what events in your region have a 2K component? Or do you travel to races where there is a 2K? Basically - we're wondering how many of you ACTUALLY race these races!?
What is the scariest weather-related experience you've ever encountered on the water? How would you make sure that you and your crew stay safe in an unexpected, weather-related situation?
I was paddling in a practice when one of our boats capsized due to fast water and an impediment in the waterway. In advance of practice, we looked at water height and speed without concern, but at the point we turned, the fast water pushed the boat into the impediment. While our steerer was literally one of the best around, the fast water and impediment made for a hairy maneuver. From this experience I learned to execute turns well clear of impediments to minimize risk of fast water
I paddle on the schuykill river in Philly. It was hairy, but incredible to see how fast everyone pulled together to secure everyone! Ironically that afternoon, I steered for the first time and experienced firsthand how much goes into steering!
