SOTD: Ex Nihilo - Blue Talisman
Hey, everybody. It’s been a LONG time!! Just wanted to pop in and say hey to all my old friends from the community that I used to chat with and welcome anybody that has joined during my absence. I also wanted to post a SOTD for old time’s sake! Anyway, my SOTD today was a relatively new favorite of mine: Blue Talisman by Ex Nihilo. I really enjoy how light and refreshing it is while being a bit different from your typical “blue” fragrance. It does have some feminine qualities to it, but is still masculine enough for me with the musk and slight woodsy notes. It can be really nice when layered with something slightly more woody or something with a light leather note. In fact, there is an inexpensive, but quality, “inspired by” dupe by Arabiyat Prestige called “Kohl Opulence” that takes the Blue Talisman DNA and adds a slight leather and amber facet to the composition. This adds a slightly darker, richer, more masculine character to the fragrance that is REALLY pleasant. Cheers, everybody! —Jordan

@The Rain Society Thanks! It’s quite expensive stuff! If you’re looking for an affordable, quality clone, that is extremely close to the OG (95%+) check out Afnan Turathi Electric. I have it and can vouch for it. It’s as close as it gets to a 1:1 clone, to my nose. Paid around $40 or so, I think at FragranceNet. Basically 10% the price of Blue Talisman. Plus it has a beautiful iridescent bottle and packaging! I’ve got a sample of the Extrait version of Blue Talisman on its way here as well speak that should be here this weekend. I’m REALLY looking forward to trying that out!

@The Rain Society No problem! Glad I could help. It does lack a bit in the longevity department (4-5 hours), but honestly, so does the original. And at around $40 for a 3 oz bottle, you can reapply as much as you want and not feel guilty. Arabiyat Prestige Kohl Opulence has better longevity (around 8 hours) and is also inexpensive, but it takes the Blue Talisman DNA and adds some extra masculinity with a mild leather note and some amber tones, and it smells fantastic. It scratches the itch of Blue Talisman while adding a unique twist and increasing longevity. Let me know if you give any of them a try!
New Collection Display
So I finally got a proper display area for my collection. There's plenty of room left on the 2 shelves I'm using along with 3 more shelves, plus the top of the book case. In other words, I have plenty of room for more!! Everything looks so much better on these shelves!

@Jim Kulpa At the time I posted these photos, no, these were decants ordered mostly from DecantX.com and a few feom ScentsAngel.com. However, at this point in my collection journey, I do have a label maker and the tools needed to make decants of my own fragrances for friends and family. I have made over 100 decants out of my now over 300 fragrance collection, which I find rewarding to share. Those shelves are VERY full now, lol.
SOTE: Al Haramain - Amber Oud Bleu Edition
Post shower choice for this evening is Amber Oud Bleu from Al Haramain. This is a very solid clone of Bleu de Chanel EDP. I would say it's about 85% accurate to BdC EDP. Citruses and mint with a slight spice mix together beautifully in the opening. An effervescent ginger, earthy vetiver and a soft floral from the jasmine. Followed by a smoky frankincense, creamy sandalwood, along with cedarwood and patchouli to add to the woody base. The smoky incense is what I love most about Bleu de Chanel, and although Al Haramain doesn't do it quite as well, it's still present and quite nice. Enjoy your night, gents!

@Austin Charanza I think the Gold Edition is a clone of Xerjoff Erba Pura. I've never tried the Gold Edition or Erba Pura.

New Scents...
Got a new shipment of goodies in today. I actually still have some decants coming in the mail later today and I'm also still waiting on 4 more fragrances from Scents of Wood. But so far today I've received a bottle of Xerjoff Uden, which smells great! It also came with a couple Precious Liquid samples and scent strips that were sprayed with some of their other fragrances. I already have a discovery set from them, but this did include a couple that weren't a part of the discovery set, so that was pretty cool of MaxAroma to do. I also got a 10mL of Hazelnut in Oak from Scents of Wood. First impressions - meh..it's so/so. And yesterday I received 7 more ATH samples. I couldn't believe it when I counted my ATH collection. I had no idea I was up to 22 fragrances now! 🫢 The latest additions are: - Bois Eternal - Fever - Midnight Fever (First impressions are really good on this one!) - Forbidden - Maverick - Neon - Tabac Extreme (NOT a fan of this one!) I'm starting to notice that there is a lot of overlap in Aaron's fragrances, and many of them have a similar smell. It's a bit disappointing, if I'm being honest. I feel like he should have a much broader spectrum of scents that cover more fragrance classifications. Anyway, I just thought I'd share some of my newest additions. Not sure if I'll be doing any reviews or not yet. We will see! Enjoy your afternoon, everybody!

@Jeffrey Conyers Thanks.
More Scents of Wood Additions!
My first full bottle from Scents of Wood! So stoked to have one of these in my collection, they are just so damn cool! Vetiver in Oak was pretty heavily discounted due to being discontinued, I believe, so I pulled the trigger and it's quite a nice scent. However, the 3 pack of 10mLs that I chose with this order stole the show. Patchouli in Rye, Plum in Cognac, and Oud in Bourbon are all fantastic! Easily my favorites out of my collection from them so far. Looking forward to giving these a test run! Oh, and don't mind the steamed look on the 3 pack of 10mLs, they just came in from 9°F and a wind chill of -4°. 😂 Enjoy your evening, everybody!

I'm 35 years old from Northern Michigan. Learning about and collecting fragrances has become a wonderful hobby and a source of great joy for me.
