Release What Your Next Level Cannot Carry
The Doctorโ€™s Prescription โ€œSome things were necessary for your survival but were never intended to accompany you into your future.โ€ The Diagnosis There comes a point in every journey when you have to ask yourself a difficult question: Am I tired because the climb is hard, or am I tired because Iโ€™m carrying things I was never meant to take this far? We often assume that moving forward requires more effort, more discipline, more resources, more connections, more knowledge. And sometimes it does. But there are also seasons when progress isnโ€™t about what you need to add to your life. Itโ€™s about what youโ€™re finally willing to release. Some of us are attempting to ASCEND while carrying old offenses, regret, guilt, outdated expectations, the need to prove ourselves, responsibilities we were never assigned, and relationships or identities we have simply outgrown. After carrying something for long enough, we can become so accustomed to its weight that we stop recognizing it as heavy. It simply becomes our โ€œnormal.โ€ But normal does not mean necessary. There are beliefs and behaviors that may have helped you survive an earlier season of your life but are now preventing you from fully experiencing the one in front of you. There are relationships you can appreciate without continuing to depend upon. There are mistakes you can learn from without continuing to punish yourself for making them. And there are chapters that deserve to be honoredโ€”and then closed. Sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is put something down. The Prescription This week, I want you to give yourself permission to travel lighter. Take an honest inventory of what youโ€™re carrying and ask yourself one question: โ€œDoes this belong where Iโ€™m going?โ€ Notice that I didnโ€™t ask whether it once mattered. I didnโ€™t ask whether it was important, whether you cared about it, or even whether it helped shape you. The question is whether it belongs in the future you are building? That distinction matters. We have a tendency to believe that releasing something means we are rejecting it. But release is not rejection; release is recognition. It is recognizing that a person, experience, belief, behavior, or season served its purposeโ€”and having enough wisdom to know when its assignment is complete.
