The Auctioneer Sound of Silence
This is so important as we are building our Auctioneer Chant, is knowing when to be silent... Here is a description from the internet about silence in building rhythm in your performance. Super important tool to use as you are being the best Auctioneer you can be! Silence in music is a powerful tool used to create tension, structure, and dynamic contrast, functioning as an essential rhythmic element rather than mere absence of sound. By using rests, gaps between musical phrases, or sudden "drops" in production, composers and performers build anticipation, highlight melodic ideas, and provide breathing space for the listener. Key Uses of Silence in Rhythm and Composition: - Building Tension and Expectation: Unexpected pauses, such as the famous silence in Beethoven's “Pathetique Sonata”, create dramatic tension and increase the emotional impact of the following notes. - Creating Structural Phrasing: Silence (often indicated by rests) separates musical ideas, making phrases easier to understand and improving the structural organization of a piece. - Contrast and Emphasis: Dropping out instruments before a "drop" in electronic music, or resting during a solo, brings, highlighting the subsequent sound and making it feel more powerful. - Rhythmic Definition: Rests act as placeholders within a rhythm, defining when not to play. They allow notes to stand out with greater clarity and, for example, enable staccato notes to be more effective. - Intentional "Drops" in Production: Modern production often uses a sudden silence to stop the groove briefly, as famously done in Count Basie's recordings, allowing the rhythm to hit harder upon return. - Artistic Expression of Space: John Cage's piece "4'33”" is a famous exploration of silence, which actually highlights the ambient noise of the environment. Using silence allows for a "breathing space" for both musicians and listeners to process complex musical ideas, and it ensures that the music remains dynamic and engaging, rather than flat.

Texas Auctioneers
Reviving my auction career after about a 10 year sabbatical. First was licensed and work with some great auctioneers starting 1997. We sold many business liquidations, called antique gallery sales and more estate liquidations than I can count. Children and a full time tech career got in the way of my passion project but now I am retired from that and looking for opportunities. If anyone needs help, bid spotting or contract bid calling in the central and north Texas area (think I35 from Dallas / Ft Worth to San Antonio generally) I am up for it. Also starting up my own benefit auction company and could always use good assistants if you are in the area, please connect!

Super Bowl Monday thoughts
It's officially Super Bowl hangover day. After watching the spectacle that he Super Bowl is got me thinking about our profession and our performances that we get to conduct in our dream job...Auctioneering. As much as the players that played on the biggest field on the biggest day in sports, none of them would have been there without endless amounts of practice. From the players to the coaches to the production teams and even the cheerleaders...all that were are part of the day were the best of the best. Even the fans...some paying $10,000s of thousands to attend, had to be successful in their own rights to even be able to witness in person this momentous occasion. We too...have to practice like our lives and careers depend on it, because everyday that we get to work as an Auctioneer, on stage and off, we are affecting lives in many capacities. Spectacle... the field yesterday was a stage and everyone that was on it or around it had to perform to their utmost abilities. I'm sure there were so many butterflies on that field and each person having to control them to fly in alignment and be as successful as they could be. No room for shoulding on themselves, no room for..."I'll be ready tomorrow" Super bowl Sunday is the day of performance and each had to rise to the occasion without fear or hesitation. We too have to rise to our own occasions to help ourselves and our clients no matter the day. Production...the production of the entire show from the field to the stands to the commercials to the halftime show, everything was planned and prepped many months before this big day. There are so many professionals that make this special day sing like a song, each playing their unique part in the puzzle of production. We too, play an important role and are a puzzle piece completing the picture of impact. We have so work with our teams, clients and even competition to make sure we complete the job with the final product in mind...a successful show no matter the score. Winning...The team that won put their best selves on the field and gave everything they had. No more, no less, just all. Whether we are competing in an Auctioneer contest, competing for business or even competing against that monkey inside our heads, we have to give everything we have everyday. It's the winners that get to hoist the trophy but even the losers win in some capacity. They get to fight another day and build that drive to continue to be their best no matter the results. Sure the losses hurt, but the losses are what make us better than we were.

That is a powerful message filled with truth! I try to instill that very work ethic into my children so that they know and understand that nothing in this world is unattainable but, with hard work dedication, patience and faith we are able to achieve the very thing that seems so far out of reach! I’m glad that this principal applies to all goals!!
