MTB Mammoth Rock Trail
Mammoth Rock Trail Information – 2.7/6 miles, 7,860-8,460’ elevation, 100% single track, Medium technicality, Moderate effort MRC is one of the original Mountain Bike rides that people have been riding here in town since the early ’80s. The trail stretches from near the top of Old Mammoth Road across and down the face of the Sherwin Mountain Range into the lower parts of Mammoth Lakes. While riding this trail you will be treated to some fantastic views and of course, you get to ride right under the iconic Mammoth Rock formation. The lower trailhead is located on Sherwin Creek Road, one-half mile past Sierra Meadows Ranch. There are several large propane tanks in the area of the trailhead. You will also see signs in the area guiding you to the trailhead you can’t miss. The first three-quarters of a mile of the trail follows an old mammoth jeep road, then it turns into a single-track. The single track climbs thru a large area of manzanita and then up a forested section. At one point you will reach a clearing caused by the great avalanche of February 1986. The trail then passes just below Mammoth Rock and then continues to the end, which intersects Old Mammoth Road. Now you can turn around and enjoy this ride as a downhill. Caution: Downhill riders please slow down and watch for Horses and Hikers. This trail has heavy usage so you are going to encounter other users. Trail etiquette requires mountain bikers to yield to horses and hikers. Mammoth Rock Trail is a fun family trail that everyone who loves to ride mountain bikes should just check this trail out. Snowman ☃️

Mountain Bike Park Update 7-25-25
Rode the park on Wednesday: My Route was Little Eagle to Main via the Chair 15 service road to Paper Route to Uptown to Main Lodge. I then rode the Gondola to the top and did Off the Top, followed by Gravy Train, Up and Over, Break Through Short Cut, Roma’s Road, and then down Skid Marks to Manzanita, Gopher Trail, Shotgun, Big Ring, Paper Route, Timber Ridge, and Juniper. That route took me 3 hours, and yes, I was on the Turbo Levo E MTB that I prefer in the Bike Park. Lifts Open are Gondola 1 and 2, Discovery Chair, and the Village Shuttle to Main Lodge. Chair 2 is also running on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Here is the link to view the current status of open and closed trails. Please note that the Mountain View Trail is currently closed due to a snowmaking project. Hopefully, that will be done soon so that the trail can open. Trail conditions remain great, but trails continue to dry out, so hopefully we see some rain sooner rather than later. Off the Top does have some washboard on the upper long switchbacks, so be ready for the ripple effect. Skid Marks is open and is a ton of fun right now. For Mountain Bike rentals, both Footloose Sports and Black Tie Adventure Rentals have some great selections. If you’re coming up from the flatlands, I highly recommend an E-MTB unless you’re just doing downhill laps; then, I recommend getting an enduro bike. The E-MTB pedal-assist bikes make riding at 8,000-11,000 feet much more enjoyable. There is no throttle, but yes, there is a motor, and the added boost gets rid of the lung-busting punishment you get at high altitude VC Race Schedule: August 8th Flow, August 29 Follow Me, September 12 Eliminator. Had an awesome time last week! Went on a few mtb rides and hikes too! A big day in the bike park ended going down Mountain View trail to town. A favorite was one you suggested @Steve Taylor of , brake through-seven bridges to stump chair. Although seven bridges is black diamond most was easier and more enjoyable than a good chunk of brake through. Thanks!🤙🏻
