Business. My Six for life stay the same: Faith Health Family Security Development Significance I was assigned to a Think Tank for 2 Years from 90-92 as a CPT. Changed me and my thinking, problem solving, who I Was. Came out of it with that list among many other views on Leadership, Leading People and Development in general. It was messy, sometimes ugly. Changed how I led people: repetition to a standard and how peopled developed the knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve. Both are messy if they are Effective. Everyone is different and progresses differently. The great thing about the Army is we develop teams, 3-5 people that form the foundation of everything. And those teams are usually teenagers with maybe a 22 or 23 year old. My battalion during Command had 70% 21 and below! Viewing that as the foundation of Everything made things really hard on my LTs, CPTs and middle/SR NCOs. And that cohort ended up excellent Trainers but not so Good with Development at first. Training makes people the Same while Development makes everyone Different. Eventually the Biggest issues were with my Leaders all the way to the GOs! For example, we didn’t paint curbs…we hired local workers to do it. My commander didn’t like it, but my teams loved it! I did worse Stuff like buy extra boots for the battalion and begged for forgiveness later. That was something I learned in Ranger School of all places! I ended up keen on being my own boss and turned down promotion to 06 and retired in 2003 a year after giving up command. It made all the difference in my life’s trajectory. My Life 6 has remained the same.
@David Jones Yes, Excellent. As we know, what gets scheduled has the highest probability of getting done and withstanding the "unscheduled'. We all learn that if the unscheduled are ruling our world, then we are not "scheduling" clearly and properly on a daily basis.
