Best Practices for Managing Separate CLAUDE.md Files Across Workspaces
Do you keep separate CLAUDE md files for each workspace to prevent them from becoming too long or unfocused? For example, would you maintain one CLAUDE md for a Content Creator workspace and another for a Software Developer workspace? If so, how do you handle situations where the work overlaps between workspaces? For instance, if the Software Developer workspace creates a new app, but then you want the Content Creator workspace to write a social media post promoting that app, where should the shared context live? Curious how others structure this in practice.

@Yucky Yuckyyyy Thanks for the comment. I read through it a few times but I found it a little confusing. In the common mistakes section it says "If your CLAUDE.md is longer than 40-50 lines, you have context files hiding inside it." My folder strucute for my home lab alone could easily be this long. Let alone my other projects. Also, the sample CLAUDE.md has a 'What This Is' section detailing what the workspace is for. Part of the reason I asked if we could use multiple CLAUDE.md files is for folks who juggle a lot of varied workspaces. For example, it'd be great to have separate ones for business, personal stuff, a homelab, coding, etc.

Tell us three things: 1. What you do (job, industry, student, career-changer, whatever) 2. What brought you to Clief Notes 3. One thing you're trying to figure out right now related to computing or AI I'll respond to every single one. And read each other's intros too because the person who's stuck on the same problem as you might already be in this thread. I'll go first I am Jake, I have been working in tech for 15 Years, building with Generative AI for 3 Years straight now! Excited to teach and learn! That's it. Simple, scannable, gives you data on who's joining and what they need, and keeps the feed clear for content that retains people past week one.

1. What you do - Sales 2. What brought you to Clief Notes - I am struggling to keep up with all the new trends in AI. I build somthing and a week later its useless. 3. One thing you're trying to figure out right now related to computing or AI - Im building my folders and im struggling with the files and structure. Im trying to figure out how to only have 3 layers with the vast amount of information I need claude to look through. My claude md file is already too long and this is only my first project.

I'm building an AI assistant to help diagnose issues in my homelab, using my markdown documentation as context. Since lab problems are often multi-layered (e.g., involving both networking and code), how should I structure these files? My goal is to ensure the AI gets the necessary context without having to read every single document.

I have a quick question. I read that if you put too much information in markdown files, it can degrade responses. My first project is having claude act as an assistant to help me monitor and improve my home lab. I have several markdown files with a lot of information on my current home lab set-up. If I add those to the folder as well, is that going to degrade my responses?
