Race Your Soul
This is my newest song I am writing called Race Your Soul in Dm. I made this in Logic Pro. It’s a recording of my piano and bass playing along with a Logic Pro drum beat. I added it to my live set list when I perform at restaurants. It’s so fun to get a glimpse of what comes through musically as I listen and feel out the audience and atmosphere. You can check out the YouTube track if you want to try playing on it with your flute. So happy to find flutist like you who love improv. https://youtu.be/XCWI0Nq_AwE?si=USt93W2Ofo5IiUTx
Listening is the most important skill in improvising.
"I deduced that listening is the most important skill in improvising. But it's not an easy thing to teach. You can't really. You can't listen for somebody. You just have to put them in a situation where they can practice listening." That’s why I created these pillars of the Flutarians community: 🔊Improv Games - We play Live online games with other flutists that get us making decisions, solving tiny problems, playing through mistakes, and actively listening to others. These games demonstrate the fundamentals of improvisation in easily digestible “chunks” that can be skill-stacked for maximum expressiveness. 🔊Community Participation - Duet invitations, backing tracks, and a supportive community make it easy to post progress recordings. Remember to listen to your recordings and share what you liked & what you’d like to do differently!

March Freeze-Framed Funniest Flute Face Intros Contest!
Congrats @Julie McKenna for winning the Feb. Intros Contest! March is on, and the new contest is this: funniest flute face! This contest encourages recording yourself and listening to your recordings. Winner - by most likes from the community - gets a free private duet lesson session with me! Record yourself playing a flute improv or go back and look closely at a previous recording: ever noticed yourself making funny or weird faces while you’re playing? Sometimes I do! My video will pause on a frame sometimes and I think, “oh God! What was I thinking there? That face is awful! I can’t publish this!” But then I just pray no one notices and just appreciates the music. Haha! I’ll try to find one of mine. Post yours in the comments! PS - this breeds mindfulness of foul faces you might make when you make a mistake. Try not to show it on your face!

My daughter took this FaceTime picture of me when I got my new flute this year. Does this count! She’s so silly. I was so giddy and overjoyed by my new flute 😂

Ok here it is frozen
Congrats Sheri on your first public improv performance!!! at the Austin Flute Society.
Congratulations @Sheri Hudgins!!! You're a rockstar already even though this was your public debut as an improviser!! I was so proud of you for putting on a house recital a few months ago with your family, and now you're officially an improviser since you performed in front of "real people" haha - not your family!!! I knew you could do it though because I've had the pleasure of hearing you improvise in lessons with me for months now! Tell us, how nervous were you and how do you feel about your performance? I'm pleased with it. Your tone is sounding great! And I love that you get into the music and aren't afraid to move a little with it. Isn't it nice to play without a music stand between you & the audience??? Based off of "Brave Spirit" by the Cosmic Butterflies

Way to go!!! Love it!!
"House of the Rising Sun" with Clarinet, Drums, Tuba & Trombone
Thanks @Jimmy Lambert for causing me to find this recording of Doreen Ketchens playing & singing "House of the Rising Sun!" What do yall find unique or interesting about this recording? We'll play with this song next Wed night after Improv Games! Post your recordings with backing tracks for this tune in the 🌊IMPROV WATERFALL Category and post your favorite recordings of others playing this song in the 🔊Listening List Category! My favorite way to learn to play a song by ear is to listen to several different covers of the song on YouTube... then choose my favorite and try to mimic it on my flute before I add my own flavor!

@Vic Wheeler oh cool!!! Flutter like a mad butterfly. Yeah the trombone smokes! And the tuba keep my attention- the amount of strength it takes to play that thing and he seemed so happy and groovy!
