Self-Introduction
Hi everyone here! I'm Quinna, borned in Taipei and live in Taipei for my life. I'm a HR after graduating. Actually, I want to go to Netherlands for the working holiday. This is my dream. so I need to also have to practice English more to be flent. Fun fact: Quinn was my name made by the teacher from my elementary school. I felt kind of embarrassment when introducing my name. This name was also difficult to pronounce for some people because of the monosyllable. Then guess what? I changed my name from Quinn to Quinna. I like Quinna better and never feel awkward anymore. Moreover, I had never shared the same name to anyone surrounding me!!

@Chiehyi Chou I think there is a trend that encourages Taiwanese to use English name. some companies kinda force staffs to have English names. However, some American people are curious about why we do this bc it seems doesn’t make any sense. However, studies show that people who use English names in resumes have higher chance to receive callbacks than those who have foreign names. So perhaps using an English name could be a strategic move when applying for a job!

@Shan Serasis I've heard that attaching a headshot in a CV is illegal in some states in order to prevent from discriminating. If so, it would be more useful to change an English-sounding or male-sounding name. Although people cannot judge you by your pic, they can judge you by your name.

Hi everyone, I’m Ruby from Taiwan. I’ve been in this community for a while, and I finally made time to talk about myself. I’m passionate about traveling and cooking, so exploring local shops for exotic spices is a must-do when I go travel. They’re like the little trophies I collect throughout the journey! ✌🏻 Fun fact: l’ve been listening to a song called 老祖宗保佑我 by Mulan recently, hoping to get some luck at end-year party tomorrow. I will keep you guys posted after this weekend. Let’s see if it really works.🤞

@Ruby Hsu Right! Great to e-meet again! To be honest food in HsinChu is even worse than in DC. Thanks to this I can keep the momentum to sharpen my cook skills. Seems like a endless journey.

Hi everyone! I’m Chieh-Yi, originally from Taipei, and I’ve been living in Massachusetts for over 10 years. I’m currently working for a pharmaceutical company to improve their commercial data quality. I found Teacher Bannai’s Instagram about a year ago and have been loving it since then. A lot of content is super relatable. Fun fact: I recently trained my 15-year cat like Pavlov’s dog using a dry food dispenser. Now she sprints to the feeder like an F1 race car the second the food drops.

Hi Chieh-Yi, nice to meet you. Living in the states for so many years is incredible. I like MA very much (although the cost of living there is crazy) and I always want to see the foliage scenery of the Berkshires.

Hi ! I’m Amber 👋🏻
Hi !!! I’m Amber.🙌🏻 I am a freelancer of social media marketing from 2021. I’m glad to be here. Maybe my English skills are not good enough than most of people, but I really love to speak English since I was little. So, hoping that I can be more confident here and I really want to give a try to stay abroad again in the future 🥹

Hi Amber, nice to e-meet you. Being a freelancer is pretty cool! What kinds of topics do you usually focus on?

@Amber Lin That sounds like a very creative field(and very competitive as well)! Since you also share your daily life, is it hard for you to switch between professional work and personal creativity?

Hi this is Jenny from California! This is my first time joining a community like this. I am a healthcare professional and would love to be able to sound more natural or engaging like a native Eng speaker in small talks. Looking forward to interacting with everyone here :)

Hi Jenny, nice to meet you. Living in CA seems amazing. I went there 2 times in different seasons and I am always amazed by the nice weather there. Hope to revisit soon!

@Jenny Lo Taiwan is so wet. Hope you don’t miss the weather here😂 I’ve never been to LA before but I always want to visit. Luckily there are many options for direct flights between TPE and LAX. Much more convenient compared to living in east coast.
