as the title said

for context the organization that's responsible for the competition in my country held the national fair of isef , but last year when i contacted them about another science fair they do and they lied to me about the deadline and gave me a date two months before the actual deadline and i was forced to drop and later i discovered that. they weren't that helpful and it seemed from all the passed years they only take their club members (it's a club and had so much connection to international competitions like isef ect.. i wanted to join but they didn't accept me since i don't have a chapter in my regoin) so my question here i still have this year left to participate i have an idea but i am in between i am scared that they trick me again and i don't even make it to even applying and on the other hand i've been dreaming to participate since 2022 and this is my last chance i just can't imagine dropping but at the same time i fear making smthng and just lose it again what should i do?

I know that there are many related posts on this subreddit but they are mostly all really old and I don't know if the rate that this field progresses would impact the suggested material or not, I'm a junior from Egypt and I really find sociology fascinating and I would like to self study it before university, can I have some suggestions on introductory materials and how to find more advanced materials afterwards?
