Final Composition Call of 2025 (VIP Members) + Sync Spreadsheet
For those who don't know, for the last 6 months or so I've been hosting weekly Music Composition calls on Wednesday evenings for Mastering.com Members. We went through a 6-week course that taught music theory, composition and arrangement concepts. After that, the students wrote to practice sync-briefs and shared their work in the calls for feedback. It's been a fun experience watching everyone in the course learn and up their composer chops, and learning from / collaborating with each other. With the holidays coming up, I'll just be doing one more of these feedback calls to wrap up for 2025, and will start them back up again in mid January next year. Thanks to all the peeps who have been coming to the calls and helping each other learn and grow. P.s. By popular demand, here is my sync spreadsheet that anyone can use to compare different sync libraries, catalogs and music houses to send our music to. https://sapphire-badge-605.notion.site/c8b9958807264b90a294745fbb4b18a0?v=201ccf4b37c248e28776ac25ecc4ff6e That's all, BYE!

Hmm. This is a great question. I'm not sure it really does for me. The music itself yes, I'm still obsessed with. But sonically? I have to assume yes.. it just had such a big impact but I've never sought out any certain style. Besides a lot of brightness and crisp clarity because that's what I personally like.. I've done mostly mastering oddly and what you do depends on the songs/album itself as we all know.. I'm gonna go listen to all those songs and see. 😊
Produce-A-Thon is back!
We ran an event called Produce-A-Thon at the start of the year, and it was one of our most popular events ever. Good news - it's back! Starting Monday, Nov 11th, we'll be going live for three days of real-time production from scratch. You'll watch as two professional producers (Chris and Dane) go head to head to create a track using the same vocal, explaining every step along the way. Here's the link to RSVP: https://courses.mastering.com/event_full/1730137769843x859943494277136400?utm_source=FTMSkool&utm_medium=Event&utm_campaign=PAT11112024 See you there! - Rob

I needed this. Ill be attending this one. 😊
YouTube question
We're considering making every YouTube video more specific to a certain genre or skill level. This would allow us to better help a specific person instead of keeping every video broad. If we went down this route, would you rather we put everything on this channel, or had different channels for different skills levels or genres?

To put it all in one place makes it easy. ☺️
How do you achieve a polished top end on your master?
Do you just boost on EQ? Do you multi band compress the highs and blend it back in? What else? I am researching some advanced methods. Do you know any?

@Berlin RedluX if you want to get a clean clear polish on your high-end without boosting, do a "search and destroy" sweep to see exactly where that frequency is and try cutting it out. I use kush clariphonic, or slate digital fresh air to enhance a lot of the time. ☺️ I always find one or two harsh spots in the high end. Especially with EDM or metal.

@Berlin RedluX oh! I apologize for assuming! Have you tried giving a general boost around 4000hz? I say that lightly. But that polished clear high end in masters is a goal of mine as well. Most people love it. That boost around 4 tends to open things up clarity wise.
