Have you connected with your local bookstore yet? 📚
One of my favorite opportunities to encourage authors to pursue is right in their own backyard: bookstores! Many indie and chain stores love supporting local authors through signings, launch events, and even stocking books on their shelves! 👉 A few quick tips: - Start small. Walk in, introduce yourself, and get to know the staff before asking about events. - Bring a one-sheet. A simple flyer with your book info (genre, tropes, topics it covers, etc), cover, and contact details makes it easier for them to say yes. - Offer value. Frame it as a partnership: you’ll promote the event to your audience, bring in foot traffic, and make it fun. Local connections not only help you sell books, they also build long-term community support. Have you ever done a bookstore signing, or is it something on your list to try?

@Lorna Bailey we also had gatherings every 2-3 months where indie authors got together and did little mini-readings from works in progress. The shy ones lurked and the bold ones read, and tea and cookies were served to authors and the few audience members (mostly friends and family) afterwards. That was one of my favorite things to do too. That was before Amazon existed and the Big Box Bullies pushed us Indie Booksellers around. I'm long out of that game, but I am really happy to see Indie Bookshops making a teeny tiny comeback and hope that continues. I like what you're doing for Indie authors....

@Tricia Lynne how do I choose my niches...?? well... I cannot speak for others, but I'm kind of weird, so I write short non fiction metaphysical and supernatural books with a scientific basis under my own name. Think Greg Braden, Joe Dispenza, but with a Canadian accent (grin). I don't choose my niches.... they choose me! And as my guilty pleasure, I write short supernaturaal rom coms under a pen name. Think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but no vampires at all, just your friendly neighborhood historical renovation contractor in Mobile Alabama. Ocassionally possesed by a mischievous Vodou loa named Ezili who keeps possessing her body at the most inconvenient moments (and has absolutely ZERO boundaries about flirting with a hot building inspector)..... You can read more about this story... based on a "true" viral story of a wolf woman in Mobile back in the 70's... you can google it....it was all over the national news... here's a link to the novella... it's a fast, easy read. Good reviews too.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F3TQYPXH
Let’s talk word counts. ✍️
Some authors swear by a daily or weekly word count goal to keep their writing on track. Others find the numbers intimidating and prefer to focus on “time spent writing” or just finishing a scene. 👉 I’m curious: - Do you set daily or weekly word count goals? - Do you find word counts motivating. . . or more stressful than helpful? There’s no “right” answer here — the best system is the one that keeps you writing!

I just get up at 5, do my morning "duties" and get to work at my laptop by 530 and get a couple of hours in most every monrning. I miss a couple of mornings a month, and don't beat mysefl up about it, but after years of practice the habit is pretty strong. I've never counted words. T am pretty sure everyone is different and we all just need to find what works for us. I've been a morning person all my life. Most of my writer friends seen to be night owls, my way would be torture for them
