Groove compression for a fast pace beat
Hey, guys. I'm mixing a beat that 137 BPM. It's a fast paced R&B beat. I know I need a slow attack and fast release on time with the tempo, but since the drums are closer together and there're more in each bar, I would want the quickest of the slow attacks with the fastest release, right?

Mathematically, a bpm of 137 will have a beat roughly every 0.44 seconds. Compressors will often have attack or release times in milliseconds. To a release time in milliseconds, the bpm won't matter so much, but you playing with the compressor settings to get a feel for that needle dancing will. Be careful with the designation of 'fast' and 'slow ' with compressors, for the actual experience you get sonically may not be what you expect in practice. Why not okay with some different compressors and their attack release times on multiple solo'd tracks to A-B-C what your options are? Set each track with a compressor and get it to dance like you think is best for the song - repeat with another compressor on another track and then compare later.
Friends! The last 3 Days were so fun! Can we make is OFFICIAL?
Well, that is another great Fix-The-Mix in the books! I really enjoyed working with Jake on this song and I want to thank you all for being there. It was a GREAT time. Congrats to Rueb Scott for making a killer song for us to work on. I felt like this FTM manifested many great conversations and some really MAGIC mixing moments for us to learn from. If you haven't yet, be sure to catch the replays. I also want to say thanks for letting me share my passion with you and speak about our flagship program The Reverse Engineer. These Fix-the-Mix events are the only time I really get to share with you how deeply I feel about our community and program we are building here. I am so excited that so many of you have either joined already or are working to join soon. Listen, I know that investing in yourself can be hard but I will always encourage people to be brave when it comes to self-improvement. Life is short and so we really need to pursue our passions with fervent focus and run wildly towards the things that make us happy. If getting the skills you need to be successful is the obvious next step, don't let anything stop you from finding good education. You'll never regret this move. Many years ago, in a particularly hard time of my life, I faced some major fears (and burdening ego) and chose to invest in myself. It wasn't easy, but the singular act changed everything for me. I hope all of you can move towards that vision for yourself in 2024. If you want to chat with us about how we can help you reach your goals with music production, book a call at the link below. We will decide if it's the right time and a good fit together, and then we will game plan a way to move forward. https://go.mastering.com/post-event-ftm-book Go be great! Caleb Loveless

This is an amazing program - have been working now for about nine months and it literally changed my musical life. If you are considering it and on the fence, know that the material inside and the community is solid gold, baby. ๐Ÿ‘
Rookie Move - Mysterious Clicking Noises - MIDI recording
Update 2 - I read the MIDI Interface documentation (should have started with that) - it specifically stated, if you "hear pops, clicks and distortion, try raising the buffer size". My buffer size was at 64 - I raised to 1024 and no more pops, clicks, noise. Update 1 - my friend recommended turning off LED lights in my house - that solved the problem! I have about 10 smart LED lights. All off now, no clicking. Have experienced a clicking noise while attempting to record from my MIDI keys - MIDI out to Focusrite MIDI to USB Interface going into my Laptop USB. Noises driving me nuts. I turned off cell phone, wireless in house, wireless mouse, swapped USB cable, still had click noise in a constant cycle. Plugged laptop and and keys into Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) I took from my TV and problem solved - no more clicking. I have had my share of tech problems in the past week LOL.

Hmm - maybe some voltage on your lines is not as 'standardized' as it should be. Glad you figured it out, man.
