Post Your Breath Hold (Week 19: May 4th - May 11th 2026)
With a huge influx of new faces - hi everyone! - it is time bring out one of the classics. Stig's 2nd appearance on the TEDx stage was a big one. Not just because of the title, Breath Holding is the New Black. Or, how he talks how breath holding & breathwork provides a natural solution for PTSD. No, it is because it is a miracle that we can even watch the video as it is today. The recording took months, and several emails back and forth, to get published. And when it finally did, it was flagged and stated that the talk was not supported by "legitimate" science. Ironically, all in the same year a Nobel prize was awarded for the discovery of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability. If you have already done the challenge, you likely have already experienced difference, peer approved or not. So, lean back, and enjoy!

The breath comes first, the movement follows. This is the mantra that you keep in your mind. With every breath you take. With every step you take. Breathing and breath holding go hand-in-hand. We have been doing a lot of work to improve our breath holds to improve our breathing. Now, with this morning workout, we can work on our breathing to improve our breath holds (or just simply our breath-body coordination, energy and overall health). Watch the video; and try the routine one morning. Let us know how you feel. Oh - and keep doing those breath holds. They still help too! P.S. For those that got up early in the morning on Sunday and already participated in real-time; I salute you!

Canโ€™t find videos of Tiger breath andโ€ฆ?
Hey guys! A few days ago I unlocked instruction videos of what I think was 3 different breathing techniques. One of them (iaf I remember correctly) was โ€tiger breathโ€ and Rhen two more. Does somebody know where I can find them??๐Ÿ™ƒ

Did you know this? Every day you do breath hold training, you become more resilient vs. overbreathing. When you exert yourself, your oxygen intake goes up by 300% to 500% What comes in, must come out; in this case, in the shape of CO2. Luckily, as an apneanaut, you have build up ample CO2 tolerance. The result? Your breathing rhythm stays intact, even when you run a mile. Good reason to keep posting those times. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Any of you experienced an easier time during workouts ever since picking this up?

Day 7 โ€”> 2m2s new max for this period of getting breath retention back into my daily lifeโฃ๏ธ Worked out like magic that a breathwork session I joined this evening had breath retention involved and so I used most of the 60m to practice exhale holding, kind of a warm up, and then last bit of time I did a couple inhale holdsโ€ฆ was able to time it because the coach guided us with a song that length so it felt like I could have even held on longer. Most peace Iโ€™ve ever felt doing a hold actually. And I was lying down. That said I totally believe in Stigโ€™s advice and have done his specific instructions for Day 7 before. This was just a new way a stumbled upon. ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ
Post Your Breath Hold (Week 42: Oct 13th 2025 โ€“ Oct 19th 2025)
Welcome to Week 42 of the 2025 Breath Hold Challenge! Every week, we come together. We hold our breaths, share experience & help each other succeed. Here is some great juice from last week to up your game. Breath holding is an experiment with your body, mind and breath. @Ayush Tiwari noticed that breath holds came easier at the end of the day, when he was almost about to tumble over of tiredness. What is going on? As @Manuel Ruep explained, fatigue overrides the "panic loop", making the breath hold "easier". How can you use this to your advantage? Here are some ideas: - Train in dim light, - Do the breath holds before going to bed instead of in the morning, - Do a few light stretching exercises in the morning to down regulate the nervous system.

@Phillip de Bruyn @Annika Corley I agree with Phillip, however, we must always do whatโ€™s right for us personally. As long as youโ€™re not stressing about it, max attempts each time could be fine. If you find you are bothered by the times going down with each hold, perhaps test out the shorter holds first then ending with a max attempt.

@Phillip de Bruyn feel that way too sometimes, about the smileโ€ฆ if I can remember to purposefully put one on my face though it always helps!
