Post Your Breath Hold (Week 25: June 15th - June 22th 2026)
Post all your Breath Hold Times here! Let's go & double your breath hold! 🧑‍🏫 Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here so you can get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Already participated last week, or last month? No worries, you can post and do it as much as you want (as a matter of fact, we'd only encourage it 😎) And if you done the challenge once (or twice), feel free to shake it up a little bit. Do exhale breath holds only for a week, or take it easy and do 1-2 breath holds a day without going for a max. Variety is the spice of life.

@Barbara Baudissard definitely stick with it and keep the positivity forward focus because no time is bad or good; it just IS. That can help you stay in the game and see progress over time!

Day 43 of consistent breath retention practice ---> 7m Super Human Lungs with 10-10-10 on the 1m of apnea pushups. Day 7 of 2m10s inhale holds
Post Your Breath Hold (Week 23: June 1st - June 8th 2026)
Does breath holding activate the “rest and digest” or the “fight or flight” response? The answer is: a little bit of both. One of the key aspects of holding your breath for a long time is relaxation. Your body helps you with this, as after about a minute into the breath hold the Mammalian Dive Response kicks in, which causes, among other things, your heart rate to drop - making it easier to stay calm. As part of the Mammalian Dive Response, blood flow to the arms and legs is restricted, to allow more blood to flow to the vital organs. This mechanism is controlled through the sympathetic nervous system. When you do breath holding on the regular, you’ll experience both of these responses. Half way during the hold, you feel completely relaxed and lose track of time. In the end, if you want to push yourself, it is a challenge akin to climbing a mountain top. It is a great “workout” for the entire nervous system, cells, organs (in particular, the heart, lungs, spleen & brain) and blood circulation. Can you double your breath hold time in 7 days? There is only one way to find out. Here's how to play: Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here, get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom for the rest of the challenge. Let's go & double your breath hold! 🧑‍🏫

Day 30 —> I’ve been doing 2m5s inhale holds the last 2 days rather than 2m… just a tiny increment. Today I have not done it yet, so I’ll save more discussion till I do. What I have already done is the 7m Super Human Lungs with 10-10-10 on the 1m of apnea pushups. I’m happy I’m able to do all 30 now 🤗 also I’ve been singing a lot! Because those 2m holds for the past 2 weeks has dramatically benefited my voice 😎 it’s not professional or even good singing really, but I feel joy, and I’m mostly on key 🤣 I can now hold the notes and clarity of sound and tone has much improved. I’m amazed and very happy about this.

Should you do breath holding when you are sick? Yes. And. No. Forget about going for a max breath hold. And you probably want to skip the weekly challenge. But 10, 20 or even 30 seconds of gentle breath holding? It helps. And it even was a staple when all of us were "sick" a few years ago. Check Stig's video (and the subsequent post why small breath holds do wonders)

@Phillip de Bruyn I noticed that too about @Edward Brittain :)… reflexive breathing is a new term for me for an old concept: letting your breath return to its natural state, what it wishes to do without any control. I’m just the observer, aware of my breath without intervening!
New PR
4 minutes. I love it 😅 “My limits are moving.”

Post Your Breath Hold (Week 21: May 18th - May 25th 2026)
How early should we start with breath holding focusing with children? Is it right from the start, or is it better to wait? Tune in to find out Stig's take about what is the best time to get started. And then, if you have kids (or cousins, pupils or student), why not do breath holding together this week. Check the classroom to get started…

Day 18–> 10+3 in the sun then got too hot… lay myself down on cool deck, 10 + 3 then 2m4s inhale hold corpse pose. Contractions came sooner than yesterday but I could have held on longer; I just didn’t want to mess with my mind or my 2m/day streak for tomorrow.
