YOUR DAILY HQ POWERUP - JENNY
Hard Doesn’t Always Mean Stop I’m in the middle of writing and editing The Fusion Paradox. And I’ll be honest, it’s hard going. Much harder than I thought it would be. It’s taking a lot of mental energy, and there have been moments where I’ve sat looking at it thinking, why is this so difficult? Matt said, “If it’s draining you this much, maybe we shouldn’t do it.” And I get why he said that, because he sees me at the end of a writing session absolutely exhausted and he worries about me. It would have been so easy to grab that and run (and it was tempting). Sometimes if something is draining you, the answer is to stop. But not always. Because I know this book is important. I know the work in it will help people understand why their business feels harder than it needs to. So I don’t think the answer is to give it up. I think the answer is to stop pretending I can do it in the way I first imagined. It needs smaller writing chunks. It needs scheduled time so I can be in a rhythm. I need less (self-imposed) pressure to get it done quickly. Some things are draining because they’re wrong. Some things are draining because they’re important and need a different pace. Today’s POWERUP: don’t assume hard means wrong. Sometimes it means the thing still needs doing, just not in the way you first planned.

It only takes seconds Yesterday I upped my plank time at the gym by 7 seconds. Doesn’t sound much, does it? I had been struggling at 45 for months, then at the end of last week I felt a bit stronger, so I increased by 7 seconds. That 7 seconds across 3 sets is 21 seconds. Today I thought, let’s see if I can do a minute. An additional 8 seconds, 15 in total. That makes an additional 45 seconds across the sets. Basically, an extra set from where I started. And when I started, I would wobble and shake for at least 20 seconds and watch the clock count down and decide whether I could face a third set. Today, I could probably have done another minute. It made me think how easy it is to dismiss progress because it looks small from the outside. But those tiny increases are often the route to something changing. Today’s POWERUP: don’t ignore the tiny wins. Small progress is still progress, and sometimes it’s the clearest sign that you’re getting more focussed and stronger.

Using Canva
After the training session with Jenny and Matt on how to use Canva. I had a go and produced a very simple, but kind of nice, social media post on Saturday. Small step, but felt big to me!

If, like us, you had a busy weekend sorting out life, you may be starting Monday tired. We did our final house removals and it was physically exhausting. So, when the alarm went off at 6am, we groaned and questioned if we had to go to the gym. We looked at the diary and realised we had to push a bit today to get it done. It's easy to drop the things that will really help, such as exercise and eating well. But they are often the things that do need the push. What are you excited for this week? Check the diary and see where you are going to gain energy. When can you rest? I will definitely be having my afternoon nap on the office floor. Today's POWERUP: If you are starting Monday tired, don't write of the week. Start where you are, look for where you can get an energy boost. Remind yourself why what you are doing is important. Look for the pockets of time you can rest - timetable it in so it's guilt free.

Learning to say no is hard enough. Learning to say it without immediately explaining yourself is another level. Because for so many of us, no comes with a paragraph. Why we can’t. Why we would if we could. Why we hope they understand. And sometimes an explanation is useful. But sometimes it’s just us trying to make our boundary feel more acceptable to someone else. No doesn’t have to be rude. It doesn’t have to be cold. But it also doesn’t have to be defended like you’re on trial. Today’s POWERUP: say no clearly, kindly and without the essay. The right people won’t need you to over-explain it.
