A Place to Land
To the doulas, midwives, and birth workers who have recently joined—I’m so glad you’re here. Many of you are already walking deeply in this work. You’ve held mothers, witnessed birth, carried stories—some beautiful, some heavy. This space isn’t only for learning. It’s also for being nourished. If you’re willing, I’d love to hear: What brings you here right now? You might choose one, or share in your own words— 🌿 I’m feeling a bit exhausted and in need of rest 🌿 I’m excited and want to keep growing in this work 🌿 I’m longing for community with other birth workers 🌿 I’m hoping to breathe fresh life into my skills 🌿 I’m looking for a more faith-rooted space for this work 🌿 I’m carrying something from a recent birth You don’t need to explain fully—just a word or two is enough. From there, I can gently point you toward what might serve you best. You’re welcome here—exactly as you are. — Mary

Hi Mary, thanks for creating this beautiful space. I'm here because it's important to look after oneself when we're looking after others with such intensity. I'm also looking for a faith-based support network - somewhere that people really get both the nature of the work that birth support is but also have a firm foundation in Christ as the Creator of all things; in Him, to Him and from Him are all things. 🙏
Does this count as aerobics?
Ever glance at your pulse during birth? I mean we are taking vitals on mama throughout labor and commenting on her pulse… encouraging her to slow her breath and bring her pulse down when it is high etc. But do you ever glance at your own? Recently at a birth, I placed the pulse ox on mamas finger to get SPO2 and pulse: SPO2 = 99% pulse=71. Then I out it on my own: SPO2 = 97%, pulse 107. 107! So… can I count it as aerobics? Pilates? Running around and doing all the things at a birth? I’m pretty sure I sustained these numbers (and higher, especially as baby is being born). So try it - next time you’re at a birth, take your own pulse, and let us know where you are on that. Maybe it’s just me! But I’m guessing not… Would love to hear what your pulse is like at births. Many blessings on your hands today, m.

Oh Mary, I totally understand! I bet we could swap some stories!!! 😅 I’ve got plenty where I thought my heart would explode out my chest. Swimming duck though - calm on the surface, flat out underneath! 😅😅
Introduce Yourself
Tell us where you serve, the role you fill (midwife, doula, BA, student, intercessor), and one thing God is stirring in your heart these days about birth work. We want to know you!

Hi everyone 👋 I’m Jen 🤗 I started my birth work nearly 20 years ago as a birth doula, postpartum doula and night nanny, then became a midwife, child & family health nurse and sleep consultant. With God’s grace, I will gain my lactation consultant qualification this year. 🙏🏻 I love that this community exists. I think praying for other birth workers is a calling in itself, but one that we should all be a part of. 🤲 Looking forward to connecting with you all ♥️ I’m

Hello, and a whole-hearted welcome to you, dear birth worker. Whether you are a practicing midwife, doula, birth assistant, intercessor, student, or simply someone whose heart beats for mothers and babies—this space was created with you in mind. This community is for those who walk into birth rooms carrying prayer and skill… for those who hold the hands of women in the night… for those who pour out strength, wisdom, courage, and Presence… and sometimes find themselves poured out, too. Why Devoted Exists Birth work is holy, beautiful, demanding, and at times deeply depleting. We care so much—and sometimes we do not have the care we need in return. We need biblically-rooted resources for our clients, for our practices, and for our own weary hearts. We need spaces where we are understood— not only as clinicians, attendants, or helpers— but as Believers who carry Jesus into the work of birth. I know this need intimately. As a seasoned, solo-practice midwife in rural Washington, I searched for a place where I could find guidance, rest, support, and language that knit together faith and birth. I longed for someone who “got me,” someone who understood the weight I carried. And when I couldn’t find it, the Lord whispered: Build it. For yourself. And for others. So here it is. Devoted: The Ministry of Childbirth. What You’ll Find Here Inside this community, you’ll discover: - Courses — from Discern Your Call to Intro to Birth Assisting to the full Birth Assistant Training: Becoming a Midwife’s Second Set of Hands. And many more soon to come! - Mini-retreats and breathing spaces for midwives, doulas, and attendants who need restoration. - Breath Prayers booklets and devotionals for mothers, fathers, and birth workers. - Book drafts, printable resources, client handouts, and guides. - 1:1 mentoring and birth story listening—a private space to talk through the births that have shaken or shaped you. - Prayer threads and intercessor circles for those who hold this work before Jesus.
