Whatβs the biggest challenge in your coop right now? - cold - predators - egg slowdowns - bullying - boredom - something else Drop yours in comments and help someone else β letβs troubleshoot together.
@Paula Boggan normally they do go in. In the rare chance they don't....just look out the window some point after dark. Are they all waiting at the door like they missed the bus? Then go out there and put them in.
Zone 6a so atm, keeping hens enriched and fueled to survive the cold winter season. We are bored but short walk to the green house where it's nice and warm helps on cold but sunny days. I stock it with plenty of straw and scratch. Is it spring yet!? π³
What's one thing you can share with other chicken keepers that changed you or your flocks life? Could be a feeding situation, coop embellishment, a fact about chickens, whatever you want. Drop it in the comments below and outline why you did it and how it impacted you in a positive way. Let's all learn from each other with great tips.
I have to free range. I wouldn't have it any other way. I didn't want to continue to spend 2 hours walking with chickens, so, we built a 'playground' and have the entire thing 1/4 inch hardware clothed. The 2 coops open Up into a playground and they are more free and so am I! πβ€οΈ
Chickens are basically tiny chaos wizards. Whatβs the weirdest or funniest thing your flock (or a single chicken) does? Example: screaming at a leaf like it committed crimes. π Story time π
@Jared Latigo my story was going to be the exact same! My 9 month olds, yesterday totally bugged out by the wild birds in the green house, lol. My 2 young girls ran in quick little circles, bouncing boing boing boing and it was hilarious. I tried to catch a video but you Know how that goes! ππ
My hen swallowed a whole frog and a whole mouse one time. I still have never given my hens The whole carcass. Instead, I do a slow boil and process all meat and dispose of bones. Then I weigh out equal amounts, put in seperate baggies and into freezer. I can then pull out some chicken from the freezer for the hens. Like a one serving bag of protein for the 9 hens.
