Hey Bawks crew! 🐔 Summer officially arrived, and we're already feeling it. With temps climbing, I'm curious—how are your flocks doing? We all know birds don't have sweat glands, so they rely on us to help them stay cool. But every coop is different, and every flock has their own vibe. **What's working in YOUR setup this summer?** - Do you have a specific watering system that keeps water cool longer? - Shade structures that are life-savers on peak heat days? - Any ventilation tricks that make a real difference? - Timing changes for feeding or letting them out? Drop your heat management strategies below. I'd love to hear what's helping your birds thrive when the thermometer climbs!🌡️🥵 I've developed several strategies over the past few summers. I have a series of fans that I can move around to different areas as needed, both inside the coop and out in the runs. I freeze large bottles of water and float them in their water buckets to keep them cool. I make sure to have a variety of melons on hand so I can chop them up to serve fresh or frozen. I freeze electrolyte water into cubes and provide bowls for them to enjoy. We built covered "forts" to give them shelter from the sun, rain, and predators when they're in the garden. I've tried giving them a baby pool with bricks in the bottom for them to stand in, and flexible misters, but they haven't really used either. I recently changed their runs from wood chips to sand, so I plan to try misting stations in the runs again this summer.
