Economics is the study of the allocation of resources. Money is just one type of resource. The thing that is interesting to me is that whenever the subject of "economics" comes up people always think about "money." Economics can be of healthcare drugs, crab populations, etc. It (economics) is useful because it teaches how to work within systems so that they are sustainable. It's when there are inequalities, inefficiencies, or like, imbalances when things go wrong. It is all the same whether it's money or natural resources.
