Consults w/ same-day treatments
Question for those that offer same-day, face-to-face consults with the option to treat immediately How do you manage your diary if most your clients don’t really know what they need until after the f2f consult? I’m a solo practitioner with limited treatment days, so efficiency is really important for me. The challenge is that most of my clients are new to aesthetics. They don’t want to book in by "area" (e.g., lips, chin, nose) because they aren’t sure what’s right for them - they want me to assess, recommend, and then treat. I personally love this way of doing it as I'm not a fan of clients self-diagnosing, but as a result, some appointments are quick (e.g. one area), while others expand into multi-area plans with longer treatment and discussion times. This unpredictability causes both wasted gaps in my diary and clients having to wait while I run late. I’d prefer not to push the decision back to my clients when they're booking in (since many would get paralysis by analysis as they're new), but I'm not really sure how to deal with it. I’d really love to know what booking/timing method has worked best for you when people are booking in for open consults w/ potential for same-day treatment (as opposed to booking in for a specific treatment). @Alisha Hothi Hi Alisha - how we manage same day treatments is based on which treatment & the time it takes to do the treatment. We also usually reserve same day treatments for things like Botox/dysport injections which can be done in 15min once the consult & assessment are complete. If a treatment takes longer than 15-20min - we always let people know that they will have to book another treatment appointment. If we get a strong sense that the new client coming in will want to proceed with treatment during the same appt - we just schedule a 30min consult appt & add an extra 15min. So far this has worked out quite well. Any filler appts - I always book a separate treatment appt, since these are usually 1hr appointments. Most clients understand & have no issues with that policy. If they question why they can’t do the treatment at that appointment, I simply explain it’s b/c the actual treatment can take up to an hour with the numbing process, mapping out & planning the injection areas, etc. as well as the fact that we have other clients booked in & that it’s not fair to make them wait, just as it wouldn’t be fair to make the new client wait if someone ahead of her/him wanted to proceed with a treatment that could take an hour. Now - that said…if the client is the last appt of the day & it’s a reasonable time & Im not exhausted…depending on which treatment it is, I may agree to proceed during that appointment. One other thing to consider is, again depending on the treatment, whether there are any pre-treatment preparations they need to do prior to the treatment - such as stopping using certain skin care products or not drinking alcohol or taking certain medications, etc. So it’s not a simple matter of just deciding to go ahead. There are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration. Also - as Dan noted above - I want clients to have a reason to come back. I’ve found that after they’ve been there for the consult appt & have seen our “ad boards” & posters for other treatments, they go away thinking about some of these other treatments & when they return for their actual treatment appts, they almost invariably inquire about some of the other services we provide & more often than not - they book for additional services they weren’t even considering when they booked their initial consultation appts. Status & Wealth: The Real Focus
If you’re ever questioning where to put your energy in medical aesthetics, the answer is simple, status and wealth. That’s the foundation of this program. I hacked the system by building status fast. Instead of taking the traditional route, slowly building a clinic through word-of-mouth, publishing articles for credibility, and eventually hoping for a stage invite, I focused my energy on growing my brand as an online educator. At the same time I educated the public on the right topics. Your posts should always work for you: - Build your authority as an educator - Highlight big-ticket services - Grow your audience and clinic at the same time Every piece of content is a lever for status and wealth. That’s the game. Play it to win.

This is the main area I struggle with. I am not comfortable on camera - I’ve always avoided the camera & prefer to be the photographer rather than the subject of the pics or videos. I also do not look like other aesthetics providers who post, who are all incredibly attractive with perfect makeup & youthful appearances. I don’t “fit” the part! I’m not photogenic in the least. While I understand the purpose of the posts is to get engagement with my prospective clients, and to showcase my knowledge & skill, I still struggle with trying to figure out what to post on - what to say in those posts & how to grab people’s attention. I have watched Dan’s videos on this & like the idea of YouTube over IG & know that such videos should aim to be around 5-7min. I keep trying to plan out videos to record & post, but then get cold feet. This just seems to be one giant hurdle I can’t seem to get across & I’m really not sure how to get over that hurdle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 😟

What would you do??
I politely declined a new patient who wanted to fly out on the night of the appointment (she wanted cheek& jaw filler) saying her safety is my number one priority and this is what she wrote back… [This is just *gentle* feedback from someone who gets filler / Botox all over the country multiple times a year. Sharing your lack of confidence about my safety with you injecting me is not smart practice. Now I would never come in because I'm worried about your experience level. I've never had a practitioner ever say this to me before and I've been getting injected the last decade. Thank you for your time.] I know I did the right thing but just wanted to see what others thought… thank you 🫶🏻

Scarlett - I have also declined to inject a client flying that night. I explained to her my concerns regarding: planes only being pressurized to 8000ft, possible delayed complications, possible swelling/bruising, not being available for follow-up within the 2wk period, etc. & I have 8 yrs of experience & am a physician. My training by one of the best trainers in southern Ontario at the time was always not to inject fillers on the same day as a flight, even if the risk is very low - this training was informed by her own bad experiences over 20yrs of practice. I am also a firm believer in Murphy’s Law & as such, I have always followed that rule & I fully explain to my clients my rationale for such. I have only ever received their full appreciation & thanks for prioritizing their well-being & results over my profits. The client I declined to inject on the day of her flight came back 3 wks later after her vacation & told me she was actually grateful that I had declined to do it as it was one less thing she needed to worry about while on vacation. At all of our consults with 1st time clients, we educate our clients that we want a 2-3 wk window to complete treatments & follow-ups before any events or travel. For the most part they all stick to this rule. For clients we know well, we may allow 7-10 days prior to travel for Botox (Dysport) injections & we have them come in 1-2 days before they leave to do their follow-ups. Trusting your instincts is what will generally help you to avoid any major issues. As one of the group commented about - this person had many red flags as it was. The fact that she supposedly gets fillers injected all over the place tells you she has no loyalty to any one clinic. You did the right thing! Don’t let her get into your head - I know easier said than done! LoL!!!

Dan - I couldn’t agree with you more on this topic! From the time we started as a hobby clinic 8yrs ago - we started all of our clients on Dysport. We personally tried each product so we could evaluate them ourselves & we passed this experience onto our clients. To start with - we could never find an Allergan rep who would give us the time of day b/c we were new & not using a lot of product. Even 8yrs later - trying to find an Allergan rep is next to impossible! 2nd - we actually found Dysport to be a superior product with better results & less side effects. To this day, I’ve only had 1-2 clients specifically ask for Botox. We do keep 1-2 bottles on hand for those clients. We also price Botox & Xeomin at $1/unit above Dysport. The same applies to our fillers. We use a variety of fillers, none of which are Allergan products. We’ve never actually had any clients ask for a specific filler brand. We also don’t price our fillers by the syringe. Instead we change for an “enhancement” such as Lip Enhancement, or Temples Enhancement, Jawline Contouring, etc. We will include a neuromodulator for a lip flip for example if it’s called for. Charging by the syringe, to me, takes the skill & artistry out of the equation & it just feels like someone going into Walmart & purchasing a product that you’re simply going to inject for them. There is no value applied to the risk, skill & artistry, with the knowledge & training that goes into becoming an expert injector. Once we explain this to clients asking how much we charge per syringe or 1/2 syringe they generally book. We’ve built into the pricing the possibility that someone may require more than 1 syringe, a touchup, or dissolving of old fillers done elsewhere. So far this has worked out well & as we build up B/A pics to post, I anticipate more clients will come for our “Facial Enhancements”. I’m curious to know if anyone else prices their filler treatments in a similar way - or does everyone pretty much stick to the “per syringe” pricing?
