🛑 When advisors think about risk…
…it’s usually market swings or compliance checklists that come to mind. But another category of risk tends to get less attention: operational risk. It shows up quietly when: - Processes live in people’s heads - Tasks don’t have clear ownership - Workflows “mostly” work Individually, these may not feel urgent. Over time, though, they can create friction, bottlenecks, and unnecessary exposure. As firms grow, complexity naturally increases, more clients, more team members, more moving parts. Without clear systems, small gaps can become harder to see and harder to manage. This isn’t about people falling short. It’s about whether the systems are strong enough to support the firm as it evolves. We created a simple Self-Assessment Tool to help you identify hidden gaps, clarify ownership, and strengthen the operational foundation of your firm. 👉 Download the Self-Assessment Tool and use it as a starting point to reduce risk and build with confidence.

So true. We often focus on AUM growth rates, but what about client and employee growth rates and how this impacts operations? This is something we've started tracking at RIA Pulse. I'm curious @Aly Barnes at what employee count you see that friction start to set in.
Client Identity Verification via SMS OTP
Our firm is working on strengthening our cybersecurity and would like to implement an identity verification tool to use with clients. With the increase in hackers using A.I. to impersonate voices and spoof phone numbers, we would like to use a tool to send clients a SMS verification code when they call in with requests and verify the code. We found Twilio Verify, but after digging more into the tool, it seems that it is just an API tool that requires you to code it into an existing website/app or use 3rd party vendors with it. It just seems much more complex than we would prefer. I would love to see what other RIA firms are doing to verify client identities and what tools are being used for SMS OTP verification.

@Tara Shannon What CRM do you use?

@Tara Shannon Wealthbox advertises an integration with Ring Central via Zapier, and Ring Central has a browser extension you can use to call or send text messages from anywhere in your browser. So a nice user experience may be to have that Ring Central extension available to the person receiving the phone call so they can pull up the client page in wealthbox, copy their phone number, paste it into the extension, and send a random 4-digit code for the client to confirm on call. This message would get logged in Wealthbox via Zapier. Getting set up on RingCentral may be overkill just for text though. @Theo Katsoulis seemed to have some experience down in the comments below though, and he's pretty sharp.
