Describe Your Chicken's Summer Personality in 3 Words
Last one of the week and it's a simple one. Your chickens. Summer heat. Three words. My girls: Melon-mongers, Shadeseekers, bug-hunters Tell us yours!. 👇

I’m finding mine are sharing the same three words as yours Debbi! I’m learning
Flappy Hour - Flock Routines
Friday question. What does your flock routine look like — and when did it stop feeling like a chore and start feeling like the best part of your day? Because there's a moment it shifts. You stop thinking of it as something you have to do and start thinking of it as something you get to do. When did that happen for you? 🐔

@Debbi Jesse I understand completely and I now know where I went wrong. In the future when I bring in new chicks, which, let’s face it, WILL happen 😂, I will know what to do better! I am currently sitting with them and feeding soldier fly larvae from my hands to get them used to my hands every evening. They already come running when I yell “Girls!” When I get home from work or I’m up in the morning so I know they trust me to a point. I haven’t yet let them free range as I want total trust with them before that happens. I live out in the country and there are Eagles and Hawks. I would never let them free range unless I was out there anyway due to that. Their run is covered and secured from overhead. As pictured…

@Kim Linman she is. She follows me around like a puppy when I’m out there!
Chicken therapy
Controversial opinion: Chickens are better stress relief than anything a doctor could prescribe. No copay. No wait time. No side effects except maybe getting too attached and ending up with more chickens than you planned (like that's a bad thing?!?) Sitting in the coop, watching them do their thing — there's nothing like it. If you've felt it, you know exactly what I mean. Has your flock ever genuinely gotten you through something? Tell us about it!

@Debbi Jesse I agree. I love just sitting in the run with them and watching them

My babies arrived!
I’m FINALLY a chicken mama! After a long wait my babies came today…the only sad thing is, they didn’t all make it through the journey here. But, I have 8 healthy chicks right now and they are adorable! I can’t wait to watch them grow and get to know their personalities 😊

@Debra Bruce I’m definitely in deep because I have about 10 tees, 5 sweatshirts, hats, boots, decorations ALL over, etc! 😂😂 I did pick up some grit already and I do have some herb mix from Buff Clucks that I have been mixing in their feed already…my girls are soooooo spoiled already!! I appreciate the advice, I’m always open to any and all suggestions 😊
Spring 🌱🌷 is here! (+ The roller coaster of life & death))
Hope everyone is enjoying the beginnings of spring! The first two days of spring in Missouri have felt more like summer with temperatures in the mid 70s and 80s. Today is supposed to reach 90! First, I'd like to apologize to those who'd shown interest in learning how to grow a chicken herb garden 🐔🌿🪏. The busyness of life got me behind on my own seed starting, which meant I wasn't able to get any photos, videos, or written guides done for you. Then, unfortunately, death made the situation worse. Two weeks ago today, I lost my first chicken, my favorite girl Morticia Eggams. It was sudden and we don't know what happened. She was fine that morning and when I came home later that morning she was looking badly. She passed in my arms an hour later. Four days later, my daughter's almost 18 year old beagle, my favorite grand fur baby, Sissy, had to be euthanized. This sweet girl has been by my daughter's side for more than half her life and it was very sad for all of us. My best chicken friend lost two of her girls in the same time frame. We've spent many hours on the phone and in person consoling and commiserating over the past two weeks. And finally, my pitbull, Imani, was diagnosed with mast cell cancer the day after my daughter's dog passed away. We had surgery done last Monday and we're awaiting results from the tissue sent for grading. We lost her "brother", our pitbull, Jake, to mast cell cancer several years ago. At least this time I knew what to look for and we hopefully caught it early and got the mass removed completely. On the first day of spring, we had 8000 lbs of soil delivered 🚜for the new raised garden beds we built. Between construction of the beds and hauling wheelbarrows of soil from the driveway to the back of our property, we've been very busy (and sore!) for the past couple of weekends. I've managed to catalog all of my seeds so I can begin indoor seed starting and designing my new garden bed plans. I can recommend several really good sources for chicken garden starting in the meantime if anyone wants to get going while I get my 💩 together 😆. Thank you for your understanding. I hate promising help to people and not being able to deliver.

Understand completely…life gets messy and complicated! First of all, I’m very sorry for your losses…heartfelt hugs being sent to you, your daughter, in fact all of you!! In addition, prayers going for good news for your fur baby. You definitely have had your hands full. 💕

New chicken owner, or about to be. Expecting my new chicks in March! Can’t wait. I’m learning all I can before they get here.
