Technical Question About Lace Knitting
ā“What am I doing wrong? I’m working on a Brother KH-910 knitting machine using a foil pattern for a lace pattern. The machine knits the initial stitches perfectly until I program in the pattern. The foil runs to the start of the pattern, and I knit 2 rows with the knitting carriage. That works without any problems, but then the lace pattern carriage follows, and the foil doesn’t move any further. It selects the correct needles, but the foil doesn’t advance any rows. However, the foil feed is working; otherwise, it wouldn’t pull the foil in. I also make sure to press the RR button before starting, so that the pattern is set to the beginning. But the problem persists. Does anyone have any advice? šŸ¤”šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

@Joy Green in the UK we call it a Mylar sheet.

@Joy Green When I knit lace it moves regardless of the carriage - lace or main carriage. It should be moving onto the next needle configuration on each row.
Hand knitters versus machine knitters — ever had to defend yourself?ā–¼
Hand knitters versus machine knitters — ever had to defend yourself? If you've told a hand knitter you use a machine, you may have got The Look. The slight pause. The 'oh, so it does it for you?' comment. Machine knitting has an image problem in some circles and most of us have a story about navigating that assumption. The irony being that machine knitting has its own enormous skill curve that takes years to master. Tell us your best 'defending the machine' story — and what you said that ended the conversation.

@Glenna James it's the same as machine knitting tips really Glenna - don't overstretch yourself. Start with easy projects and learn the basics first! Stick with decent size needles and a heavier weight yarn, so it grows more quickly. @Auli Takala runs her own community about hand knitting. I'm sure she will give you some tips and if you haven't joined her community here's a link: https://www.skool.com/north-knit-loft-2847/about?ref=74b7ccebefe446f78d0558de79cc31e2
1st item you machine knitted
Can anyone remember the 1st item they machine knitted? I went straight in and knitted a jumper (pullover) and it was huge, full of mistakes lol... But I wore it anyway 😁😁

@Joy Green My knitting changed when I was in France to very lightweight and summery clothes. I'll be adding some summer machine knitting patterns in July in MkH. We'd love to see you photos - just post them under the 'wins' category - so that others can be inspired with what can be knitted on a knitting machine Joy.

@Joy Green You don't need specifics - just a photo or two and explaining what you knitted. As much or as little information as you want - no pressure for the details.

Machine knitting has a beautiful learning curve — and every snag, dropped stitch, or tension mystery is actually moving you forward. Even the most experienced makers still hit the occasional head-scratcher. That's not failure. That's the process. Whether you're just starting out, returning after a break, or already knitting regularly — there are common mistakes that catch almost everyone out at some point. Some show up early, others only appear as your skills grow. But they're all solvable, and none of them mean you're doing it wrong. Over the coming weeks I'll be sharing a series of 'š—–š—¼š—ŗš—ŗš—¼š—» š—£š—暝—¼š—Æš—¹š—²š—ŗ — š—¤š˜‚š—¶š—°š—ø š—™š—¶š˜…' posts covering the most frequent challenges machine knitters face — one problem at a time, nice and steady. No overwhelm, no judgement. I've been machine knitting for a very long time and I still make lots of mistakes. Some are so basic that I wonder where my head was at that moment?! I'm creating a library of Common mistakes and Quick fixes to give the MkH community instant guidance, something I've wished I had over the years.

@Mirijam Pasquini what exactly is the frustrating part of the upper thread tension for you Mirijam?
It's officially too hot to function... but are you still crafting? šŸŒ”ļøšŸ˜…
Rate your crafting motivation this week: šŸ”„ On fire (ironic, given the weather) 😊 Ticking along — slow and steady 😓 Gone. Completely gone. Don't look at me. Drop your emoji below šŸ‘‡ we're all in this together! 🧶

@Debra Verrall that's why it feels unbearably hot. We haven't been able to adjust.

@Mirijam Pasquini the humidity is what feels most debilitating! We've cooled down a little today and we have a decent breeze which helps - but I've slowed down so much this week because of the heat.
