I have heard that eating excess fat will cause your body to "not" prefer stored fat as there is already enough fat in circulation. So, this is my personal anecdote only. I just eat a normal amount of fat. Not high fat, not low fat. 6 to 10 eggs around noon with some cottage cheese. Then a 1 to 1.5 pound ribeye or NY strip steak around 6pm and maybe some more cottage cheese. Then a protein shake around 9pm and maybe a bit more cottage cheese. My daily protein intake sits at around 180g. We have to understand that protein has a high thermogenic effect. Around 20% to 30% of the energy from protein is used just to digest the protein. And fat is only 3% thermogenic. As a result I am much warmer all day and all night. I WAS way under eating protein for a very long time and as a result I could not lose the subcutaneous and visceral fat around my midsection. When I started increasing my protein intake over the past month (keeping all other macros and workout routine the same) I finally saw some weight loss. I lost approximately 5lbs. over the past 30 days. So, no I don't think eating excess protein is spiking your insulin as much as one might think. At least not enough to cause any significant weight gain. And like Anthony Wilson, I am lifting heavy 3 days a week so, the protein that I am consuming is being used for other purposes and not just being used for gluconeogenesis, but this is all just my opinion, because I am not an expert on human metabolism. Dr. Tony Hampton recently did a video on this.
