I’ve been in Costa Rica for one week, softening into a whole new rhythm of life. The start of this chapter was beautiful. . .and brutal. Beneath moments of levity and inspiration, I unearthed a powerful and unintegrated protector part, adept at weaving narratives of fear and pessimism. She spoke in distrust disguised as discernment. My partner, James, aptly named her “Jaded.” I’d felt her effects under the surface for many years, nameless and insidious. Unconscious enough, however, to remain just out of conscious perception. Invisible as to remain powerful. Once named, I was able to enter the process of integrating her. As ugly as she seemed at first glance, I found the purity in her intention: to keep my heart safe, even if it meant keeping it closed. She let past experience calcify the belief that it wasn’t safe to let life in. What I’ve learned time and time again in this work is that sovereignty is not being rid of your darkness, it is in your relationship to it. Do you collapse into judgment when the fear rises? Or do you lean in with curiosity and love, seducing the void and surrendering into the process? The truth is, the scariest part isn’t the fear itself, it’s surrendering to the process. Opening yourself so that life can flow through you, unobstructed by contractions and projections. I’ve felt myself transiting through a portal of fortifying trust and I’m curious if any of you have also been experiencing this expansion? Last week, I packed my life into two suitcases to embark on a journey of traveling indefinitely with my partner. This chapter is an answered prayer, my soul is smiling AND it brought up unintegrated parts seeking safety. Sitting with these parts, the message is so clear: TRUST. Trust myself to navigate the path, trust the strength of my union and, most importantly, trust the divine unfolding of the path God has laid before me. Sometimes choosing trust is an active choice.
