ADHD Meds. Any Feedback?
If you've been officially diagnosed with ADHD and opted to give meds a try I'd love to get your feedback on that entire experience. I was late-diagnosed at 52 (now 56) and opted to give them a try. In part I had high hopes they would "fix" my broken brain but the addict in my also looked forward to pumping some new stimulant drug into my body just for the rush. Over about 3 months I worked through a few different options, starting with two 𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻 - Prefrontal cortex - blocks both the dopamine transporter (DAT) and norepinephrine transporter (NET), raising extracellular dopamine and norepinephrine 𝗔𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 (𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮) - Prefrontal cortex — selectively blocks the norepinephrine transporter (NET), leaving little effect on other neurotransmitter systems Neither one moved the needle for me. So I moved on to 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀. 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝘆𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 - Prefrontal cortex — blocks the dopamine transporter (DAT) and norepinephrine transporter (NET), so both neurotransmitters stay active in the synapse longer The side effects were less than desirable with this one and it was at that time I decided to stop experimenting and just focus on lifestyle, nutrition and finding a coach. I want to be clear, this is not an anti meds post. Plenty of people I've talked to found the right medication at the right dose and it changed their life. Meds can absolutely work. So if you're open to it, share your own journey with ADHD medication below. 👇 Your experience could be exactly what someone else needs to read before they decide whether to go down that road themselves.

@Joe Keohan I'm working on both of them. Trying to get consistent but it's tough since my schedule gets thrown off every week.

@Joe Keohan I like this and will try hitting the baselines. Some days, I don't even have the energy for that lol
🎉 This week's lineup is one you won't want to miss!
Hey everyone, hope you're heading into the week strong! Whether you just joined or you've been part of the community for a while, as a fellow ADHDer you're exactly where you need to be. This week we have 3 sessions on the calendar built to meet you where you're at, no matter what you're working through. So come as you are, bring your questions, and let's figure this out together. 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵, 𝟭𝟮 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝗽𝗺 𝗘𝗦𝗧 Practical Tools for ADHD Minds We'll talk about executive function, pull out 22 practical tools you can use immediately, and score where you're struggling most. No willpower or advice. Just systems that work with an ADHD brain instead of against it. 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵, 𝟭𝟮 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝗽𝗺 𝗘𝗦𝗧 The Science of Focus We'll break down what's actually driving focus, sleep, movement, and the dopamine system behind attention, and turn that science into a handful of levers you can pull starting today. No lectures, just the "why" behind what works. 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵, 𝟭:𝟯𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟮:𝟯𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗘𝗦𝗧 Body Doubling This is one of the best systems to use to make some progress in the area of executive dysfunction. We open with a brief check in where you state what your working on then work in silence side by side toward our own goals, and close out with a final check in. If you've ever sat down to do something alone and watched an hour disappear before you even started, this is the fix. Something about another person quietly working next to you (even virtually) makes starting easier and finishing more likely. Come with a task, any task, and let's get it done together. Tips and Tricks Updated With Executive Dysfunction

Definitely working through build step by step processes. I have a big work project that I like I'm all over the place and it's overwhelming because I can't sort through my thoughts to break it down step by step.

@Joe Keohan I have to try again with it now that I'm more settled. When I first tried, I had entirely too much going on and could not really focus on it at all.
Let's Build The List: Share Your Best ADHD System
We've all tried the planners, Notion boards, to-do lists, apps... Some worked for a week. Some never at all. What's the one thing that's actually sticking for you right now? Could be a weird trick nobody would guess. Could be something as simple as "I stopped trying X and started doing Y." Doesn't have to be fancy. Just has to be real. Drop it below 👇 Let's build a running list of what really works.

I love timers too! My big one is calendar events/reminders especially for those things happening on future dates. Also, I e been using the finch app as an incentive for regular every day stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't lol
My ADHD Superpowers were only possible because I....
😔 For years I thought the problem was me. Not enough discipline, not enough willpower, just not trying hard enough. What actually changed things wasn't trying harder, it was building a system that worked with how my brain is actually wired. 🚫 Sobriety cleared the noise and now I'm 461 days sober. 🔍 Coaching helped me see the blindspots I was too close to see myself. ☀️ A non negotiable morning routine gave my brain the structure it was craving. 💪 Exercise 4-5x a week at OrangeTheory strengthened my mind and body. 🥗 Food and a dopamine focused shake gave it the fuel to keep going. Everything on that list exists for a reason, and none of them work in isolation. This is what I mean when I say wiring not willpower and this is why I promote identity, lifestyle and nutrition as the tools anyone can use to manage their ADHD. Focus on the basics and what you can control. If any part of this sounds familiar, drop a comment 💬, I'd love to hear which one hits closest to home for you. You can find the IG post here as well.

All of the above resonate and I'm currently rebuilding my systems. Staying with working out, a morning routine and food.
Attending The Science of Focus
I'm super excited about this session! 📅 When: Tue, Sep 1 @ 9am EST It includes all of the habits and routines that I use on a daily basis to manage my ADHD. It's how I've been able to leverage my ADHD as my superpower and break decades of failed focus & follow-through along with every other ADHD struggle that you can think of. If you work the habits then the habits will work for you. Who's excited to attend?
