I’m asked often, through the years, “How many scents, fragrances should I offer from my candle brand?” The answer I always give makes most people uncomfortable. “Start with 1” Because every scent you offer means a new label, a different description, having to buy the fragrance oils, a new marketing campaign, addition to your website, etsy, or social media, and the important thing is to create the candle that people will fall in love with, trust, burn, and want to buy again. Once you have 1 amazing signature scent that you feel confident to sell, you can add another. I recommend 3 scents in your first year. I know this may feel stifling or limiting but I promise it’s the opposite! There is a brand called “Kai” and they made ONE SCENT. A body lotion, perfume spray, candle, diffuser, every product they offered in the one scent. And it became an obsession with customers in stores for decades. Imagine your one scent. And then create a little collection that has meaning for you. You don’t have to be Amazon, or a big brand, you are unique, and when you know WHY you’re making candles to share with the world, your ideal customers will love you for it!
