Session 13 + other trainings
I’ve cut down on the number of sessions I’m doing to suit my health and work better. This has let me get more out of my main session and have time for shorter training sessions to work on other skills too. My main session this week focused on attempting a level 4 climb up with overgrip and better technique @Alexander Robinson has been helping me develop and running quickly at things. I think I’ve managed to achieve the level 4 climb up, it’s definitely a lot easier compared to when I’ve been doing it before. I’ve also found that I can run at things quickly and jump a lot farther than I thought I could. At the start of this programme my running jump was about 12ft with 3ish steps in. I gave myself a 12m run up to a tyre pod with an 8ft gap between it and the crash mat. I nearly cleared the mat on my first couple of attempts. By the end of the session I was clearing 13ft and landing near the middle of the mat. I also wanted to share a couple of different skills I’ve been working on these couple weeks too. Acro and tricking skills aren’t really my thing so any feedback is appreciated!

@Jayden McAllister I definitely could take a step out of the climb up but am just so used to a right leg drive now 😅 it’s definitely shown an imbalance I need to work on. That’s a great idea! For the first one I’m really pleased with it but adding in some variation would help me see where I lie with limited run ups. Flips aren’t my thing whatsoever 😅 I’m coming for a side flip because I feel like it’s a nice middle ground between front and back. I can backflip but I’m not confident enough to do them without someone holding onto my T-shirt. Just starting to take the wall spin to solid landings and outside too!

@Jayden McAllister It definitely would, it’s part of what I’ll be working on when the ground dries up. I’m not sure how a leg leg knee drive or stepping right foot into the wall would feel but I’d love to get it cleaner. With the side flips it’s a bit of everything. I have a lot to fix but at the moment I’m trying to work on swinging my back arm up and getting my foot placement right. It’s just the process of learning a new skill I suppose 🤷‍♀️
VIP Program - Fulls
Not going to lie I’ve hit a bit of a plateau and been less motivated to work on my fulls. Still done a few here and there but they haven’t felt very nice which has led to me not wanting to train them as much. Still pushing through, but definitely slowed down a bit. Thought I should still share because it’s a part of the journey and often one that isn’t talked about a lot

It’s brilliant to hear you share the off sessions and still keep aiming to improve them 🙌 What do you feel has caused the plateau you’re experiencing?

@Jayden McAllister I can definitely understand where you’re coming from. With more going on in your life it’s harder to find the time to find places and flow with your skills. Have you been training them every week or splitting them up with other skills that don’t add to the fatigue you’re feeling? I’d say fairly similarly, I was doing 3-4 sessions a week in April, but now it’s dropped to 1-2 proper sessions and the odd 30-60 minutes working on something else to give my mind and body a break. But I’m still seeing improvements even when I’ve had to take a break from a specific skill or technique

Came back indoors thanks to good old Scottish weather for most of my training this week 🌧️ I’m definitely feeling a lot more comfortable making jumps at height, these have been 7-8ft gaps. Once I start getting past the fear of being up high I started adding in different entries and exits which made me think far less about the jump itself. Really surprised myself in the second clip with how my climb ups are on the red boxes. I took 2-3 weeks off because I was experiencing pins and needles in my palms and forearms. They felt so comfortable and you can hear how surprised I was. Side flips have frustrated me a lot so I haven’t really worked on them. Landed poorly and felt a pain up my left shin but it went away after 5 or so minutes. Palm spins are much nicer so I spent more time getting them without a mat and on grass but still nervous to take it to a flat wall.

My Favorite Parkour Line Thus Far
This is a line I feel deeply proud of — especially the very last move b/c it's something I've been drilling on my own, so I can add my own pizzazz to parkour. One day during practice, my coach and I played a game called “Add-on” — where one athlete does a single move, the next athlete copies it and adds another single move to it. Rinse and repeat. Instead of knocking each other out, we decided to make it creative. We work together to add-on moves and create our own line. This took some time to build. There were moves we tried but didn’t work. Some we thought looked great, but could make it better. In the end, when we found our final piece to create the full line, we pushed ourselves to execute it faster and more powerful than we typically do. After he caught in on film — which was like my 4th attempt at it — I felt overwhelmingly proud. I thought “Damn, we did that! And I pushed myself past my limit.” I felt like this was my commemoration as a full-fledged parkour athlete. I’m pretty damn excited to create the next flow line 🌊

Can definitely see why you’re proud of it! Love how all your movements flow into each other so naturally 👌
