Clubbed thumbs
Hi all, anyone have clients (or themselves!) with clubbed thumbs & managed to find gel-x to fit? The 00 I have are still too narrow. I’ve ordered some Apres 000 to try, but thought I’d check if there’s any other brands I’ve missed? 🤞🏻

One of my regulars has clubbed thumbs! I just size the nail tips to her sidewalls and use a hand file to file the bottom of the nail tip until it fits close enough. I apply the tip a bit further down from the cuticle. Then I use rubber base to seal it all in. This method seems to work for us without having to use nail tips that are much bigger. I believe I use Apres sizes 0 and 1.

Cuticles! 😅😭 Luckily, I did go to a really great nail school that taught me a lot about products and how to apply. The one thing they really didnt focus on was cuticles and all the different kinds 😅 We were only allowed to work on our own hand (and our fellow classmates SOMETIMES). So obviously I got good at working on my own cuticles as they are pretty standard dry. But when I started work at the salon... Omg. Now I was dealing with older clients, wet cuticles, exta dry, hard cuticles, etc etc. It was very nerve wrecking to say the least. I completely avoided using my nippers for the longest time.

Acetone vs Alcohol
This is another thing that’s been on my mind recently. When do you use alcohol versus acetone? I’ve noticed that I pretty much exclusively use alcohol unless I need to really clean something up that I messed up then I’ll use acetone as I noticed that it’s a little bit clearer afterwards. Is there a good rule of thumb to keep in mind with these?

Acetone is more of a solvent and will break down product. It’s also much more drying. That being said, I personally use acetone for most cleanup rather than alcohol. We do this at the salon I work at too.

This is kind of my struggle right now because I have a weird one I currently let no-shows book another appointment as long as they respond and rebook within 12 hours. But what happens if they no-show again? Or if they just never respond? My other nail tech friends tell me I’m too nice for even giving them another chance, but I also understand that things happen. For example, I had my first no-show a while ago and found out she accidentally overslept after working a double shift. I let her rebook, she came to her next appointment, and then she even pre-booked for 3 weeks. She genuinely meant no harm, and I ended up gaining a loyal client. It worked out perfectly in that case, but I know that won’t always happen. 😭 Should I make my policy stricter, or keep giving people that one chance?

Need suggestions please 🫶🏼
I struggle with line art for example outlining character art. Doesn’t matter how many classes I do I just struggle and the shorter the brush the better for me. My birthday is tomorrow and plan on spending my birthday money on nail goodies 🙊 So because The Nail Tech Corner is nation wide please suggest you best brushes!! I’ve been looking at Devs nail supplies (USA) but it’s $108 for shipping her shortest is 5mm Ballpit (USA) has the similar brush’s including a shorter one 4mm and a lot cheaper and postage is only $27 Kirsty Meakin (UK) has really nice ones but there super expensive and super expensive for postage as well Anyways there just a few I’ve looked at I’m in Australia and I just can’t seem to find the perfect ones here were kinda limited and the shortest is 6mm I need shorter 😂 Thanks lovelies!
