Afternoon all, glad to be here. Hope your all well. I'll get straight to it, I'm very disillusioned at the moment, going to work just to survive, the state of this country and how decent people are continually crapped on! I really want to start other income streams and get my family out of this country for a better life and better weather of course. There has gotta be something more than this?! Since turning 40 I've really started thinking about things. I'm done with struggling, my goal for us is emigrating, the sooner the better. Cheers

@Jonathan Shaw do you watch those YouTube videos on expats that have moved to the Philippine's or Vietnam? Can live a good life for very little income. There are downsides of course.
Side Hustles
Afternoon Gents. I don't know about you guys but at 45 years old I don't have the energy or motivation to retrain into a new career. And even if I did I don't think changing careers is going to give me the kind of freedom I want in life. So for me it has to be a side hustle that could grow into something that can support me financially, that gets me out of this typical working life we all live in. So im wondering what your thoughtsare on starting something for yourselves. Be it YouTube, or some kind of online business? What's your ideas and has anyone began building a side hustle yet?

i have lots of crazy ideas. I am currently writing a book which I hope to release by the end of this year. I don’t expect many sales but it’s something I have to do. I was in the process of setting up Malibu Apparel . I purchased the domain and was trying to source a good clothing company. In the meantime someone else opened up under the same name but using a lower quality domain. So I am putting that on the back burner for now. They do say one of the highest rates of failure is a clothing business lol. I do think groups like this are good places to create a joint venture. 50 motivated like minded guys joining forces to create a company has a much higher chance of success in my opinion. Yes there are some downsides also but overall I think they would have a competitive advantage. That’s not necessarily why I joined the group though. Watches are big business right now. Creating a boutique watch company isn’t outside the realm of possibility. There are watch companies that do most of the work. That might be a business that would work well with a bunch of guys from this group when membership increases. I am in the process of trying to buy an old farm house in Japan right now. They are practically giving them away and the council tax is around £15pm. Japan allows you to visit for 6 months of the year without the need for a visa. You or @Jonathan Shaw are more than welcome to use it (complimentary of course) as a retreat for this group or just as a vacation. I must warn you though the additional effort and time to get to it may not be worth the free accommodation. The offer still stands. I will send an update once finalized towards the end of the year. Many people here in California have a side hustle. I have some great stories of people whom I have met whose side hustle turned into a successful business. Sorry if I sound like I am talking out of my ass/arse. it’s a subject I find interesting.
The silent struggle
Let's be honest for a minute. What's the biggest battle you're fighting right now that nobody around you really knows about? I'll go first. Mine isn't money or work. It's more the battle in my own head. I'm trying to build something that gives me a way out of shift work and a life with more freedom. Some days I'm full of belief. Other days I question everything, lose motivation, and wonder if I'm wasting my time. Most people only ever see the finished product. They don't see the self-doubt, the overthinking, or the days when you have to force yourself to keep going. But that's exactly why this community exists. No judgement. No pretending. Just men being honest, backing each other, and refusing to give up. So what's your battle right now?

Exactly the same. I hate the fact that I am reliant on someone else for my income, and that they could switch it off at any time. Lots of good ideas but no time to execute them. Some days I am optimistic, other days I am not . I think this mental swing is connected to diet and sleep deprivation. Additionally, I do understand that many of us have great ideas. The real key to success is the ability to implement correctly and the discipline to push through the hard times. Your videos really hit the nail on the head for me. Well structured, no fluff and get to the point.
Introduction
Hi Everyone. Here is a brief intro which led me to joining this group. Originally from a council estate in Merseyside and worked a decade for the Dept of Social Security. Eventually got married to a lady from California and moved to L.A. in 2005 and started a family. Now in my 50’s and really feeling the strain as talked about in Anthony’s video’s. The cost of living (esp since Covid) and general shift in society have made it hard to get by, mentally, physically and financially. No matter how many hours I work, the pay is never enough to cover the bills.i think my home insurance has increased £500pm over the last year. Cancelling Netflix ain’t gonna cover that. I see my kids less and less because I am always working or sleeping. My health is rapidly deteriorating due to bad diet, a sedentary lifestyle with no time to exercise. If I focus on myself then the bills don’t get paid. I am mentally strong but it’s taking its toll. I stay positive and am grateful for my family and many things. I know we are not supposed to post quotes but there is one that is stuck in my mind and resonates with me. “No one is coming to save you”. Sorry if this sounds fragmented. I am in a rush to get back to work. Hope to get to know you all in the future. Best regards

@Jonathan Shaw sorry I was walking out the door for a short holiday and didn’t have time for a meaningful response. When I moved to LA 21 years ago it was a great place. The energy was “peak”. lol. The food was cheap, crime was low and you could afford a decent life on an average wage. One thing I noticed straight away was that everyone was trying to level up. The book stores were full of teens and adults. Everyone was gaining new skills, going to night school or had a side hustle. It was always moving forward. Unfortunately the far left now control everything and LA is in decline. Everything is expensive, the crime is up, the city services are badly managed and the whole energy now feels oppressive. It’s so sad so see it go in this direction. If you are wealthy then life is still good but for the working class, most of us are living payday to payday. The weather is great of course and you can lay on the beach in the middle of February or going kayaking out in the ocean . You can live your live all year around l. The winters are actually better for outdoors stuff than the summers which can hit 40-45 degrees easily. I am definitely thankful for the great weather. But I can’t remember the last time I went the beach, maybe 3 years ago. All I do is work and if it wasn’t for my wife having a small inheritance we wouldn’t have gone on holiday this last week. Many are leaving California for a lower cost of living elsewhere.

Originally from The Wirral, England, now live in Los Angeles, California. Sad to see what’s happened to Britain and also seeing similarities here.
