Posting soil mix
If your starting seeds this year here is a poting soil mix I use, it's a game changer. 1 3.8 bag of promix, the one that's for seed starting so it's nice and fine. 5 gallon bucket of good fine compost, I use my own but you could purchase some. 6 cups bone meal, you should be able to buy this from any hardware store or nursery. In the future I'll show you how to make your own. 2 1/4 cups blood meal, same as the bone meal you can find this one easily and if your slaughtering your own meat on your farm you can also make this yourself and save the extra cost. 3 cups kelp meal, local hardware store or nursery. In turn you could probably purchase all of these things online. All you do is mix them together well, make sure to start with dry soil so it mixes better, then wet it and fill your containers. This is way better then any miracle grow garbage you can buy and its all natural. Your seedlings will flourish and giving them a better start makes them stronger healthier plants overall. Full disclosure this is not my recipe I got it from Floret Flowers, go check them out at www.floretflowers.com or on facebook.

Wow, that’s a lot for little seedlings to feed off of. I usually add that kind of mix to the hole that I eventually transplant my seedlings too. But you found this to do well for starting seeds? It’s not too nitrogen rich?

@Megan Noel sounds good! That reasoning makes sense! I had those same fertilizers, but with a little azomite, green sand, and lime mixed in. I’ve got seedlings going right now though, so I’ll add some in to give them a little boost.
Thankful for this group!
Hey all! Just wanted to say I was grateful for Megan doing so well at keeping engaging topics going in this community and I hope that it grows more with time. I've got more videos and stuff of the work we are doing on our property soon, but for the past year I went around filming farmers and such across Europe. If you'd like to go give them a watch and provide any feedback on how to make them better, I'd much appreciate. Regardless I hope you enjoy them, we met some really great people! https://www.youtube.com/@hancockhale/videos
Gas Prices and Inflation
The price of gas is really getting out of hand in my opnion. I'm shocked us humans haven't figured something else out yet, I mean something that really works because EV'S are not the answer. So I know we have people from all over the world on here and I'm curious what gas prices are in your area. Here in BC Canada where I am, on the coast so close to Vancouver, the price just went from about $1.76 a liter to $2.13, the highest I've ever seen it. I'm also curious if this is affecting your day to day lives, like are you driving less or going out less because it's to expensive? Or car pooling more, stuff like that. And how bad is the rest of inflation in your area, food prices mostly because they're something we all have to buy. I guess I'm just curious if we're all feeling this in the whole world at the same time? I also would like to point out the fact that everyone here is on the right path weather your actively running a homestead, growing a garden, raising your own meat or just looking into it, at least your trying to do something to take care of yourself. Be the change I guess

@Megan Noel it recently got bumped in the last few years I believe. In just 2022 it was $10.10 but it needs to be in the $20's honestly. Hawaii is one of the most expensive places to live on earth. Hawaii is #1 in the U.S. holding the highest average weekly grocery bill in the nation at $157 per week. We are 20-30% more expensive that New York😮‍💨

@Michela Baker yes, Alaska is just behind us with grocery cost. Alaska is in the $4.50's right now. We got away by a few inches before having water in one of our structures😅
Weekend Plans
Spring is here and the weather is beautiful, this weekend I'm planning on spending all of it out side getting some much needed vitamin D! What are your weekend plans?

We are having devastating floods where I’m at, so I’m just hoping the garden survives. I did harvest two banana bunches yesterday in the rain, and got 13 hands off of them😊
