I feel our purpose is intertwined with our natural talents and passions. In my experience following your heart/passion/excitement seems to activate some kind of synchronicity that draws the people, experiences and support we truly need to us automatically without having to control anything or anyone. This is why I suspect the "Law Of Attraction" the way it is commonly taught as wish fulfillment might be a subtle deception. It works, but trying to control outcomes is ultimately fear based and keeps people stuck on the wheel of achieving their ego's desires. It has become a multi billion dollar industry but I wonder if it is really meant to divert seekers from their true path.
