The secret to better kissing and less stress: breathwork and the Alexander Technique
Can the Alexander Technique, a 100-year-old secret to breathing, posture and movement actually lead to a deeper connection and better relationships? In today’s episode, host Katy Rickitt talks with Alexander Technique and Breathwork expert James Power to explore the surprising link between how we carry our bodies and how we experience relationships with other people. Most of us think of the Alexander Technique as a way to reduce back or neck pain, but as James explains, it’s often about cultivating whole body awareness and waking up the conscious mind. When you release the chronic tension that blocks your breath and disrupts your presence, your nervous system shifts from "fight, flight freeze" to a state where you can truly connect with yourself and others. In this episode, we dive into: The "Kissing Tension" Trap: Why over-eagerness and physical "reaching" can hinder a genuine spark. The Easygoing breath: How James helps clients drop the tension in their muscles to become more physically present. How to Experience Connection: Shifting from "performing" a movement to allowing a shared, authentic experience. The Anatomy of Presence: Why a free neck leads to a more open and genuine version of yourself. Whether you're looking to lower your daily stress levels or want to bring a new level of mindfulness to your relationships, this conversation will change the way you move, breathe, and connect. Breathwork to relieve pain and tension
In this clip, I share how breathwork helped me navigate one of the most difficult times in my life—the loss of my father. I was struggling with physical pain, isolation, and a loss of confidence until I discovered the power of the "Whispered Ah" technique. Not only did it help me release tension and respond differently to the world, but it also has amazing effects on others—like the student who improved his back pain and even found a new connection with his wife! Join me as we explore how breathwork isn't just about posture; it's about your whole self. Learn more on instagram: @findyourbackbone

Your lessons on how to do the The Whispered Ah are really helpful, setting the right intention before doing them is definitely the key - really grounding and so powerful. Thank you James!
Breathwork changed my life. It could really change yours.
Ten years ago, I stood in front of a room full of people at this exact venue, completely overwhelmed. On the outside, i looked like I was calm and collected while speaking to a packed room . On the inside, I was running entirely on panic and adrenaline. That day forced me to confront a hard truth: you cannot simply push your way through stress. Forcing yourself to perform when your body is screaming at you carries a heavy personal cost. That evening I decided enough was enough and went to a Alexander Technique teacher who taught me about breathwork, and the shift was profound. It changed the way I live and work so deeply that I went on to train as an Alexander Technique teacher. Now, I am returning to where it started. On 24th September 2026, I am hosting an in-person breathwork course at this venue. This is a grounded, trauma-informed breathwork course based on current research into the nervous system. There are no gimmicks or extreme breathing exercises; it is focused on safe, sustainable physiological regulation. This day is built specifically for: Business leaders carrying the cognitive and physical load of relentless decision-making NHS doctors and nurses living with high workplace pressure and compassion fatigue Psychologists and therapists looking for practical, somatic approaches to support their clients Anyone working in the emergency services Anyone feeling the quiet, physical toll of long-term stress You will leave with practical, skills to reset your breathing, release physical tension, and regain calm in high-stakes environments. Spaces are kept limited to ensure a focused, safe environment. If you would like to join us, all the details and booking information are in the first comment below. Alternatively, feel free to send me a direct message with any questions

Breathwork to help you relax
Most breathwork tells you to do more, but true relaxation comes from doing less. In this video, learn the 3-4-5 breathwork technique—a simple, effective exercise designed to calm your nervous system, lower stress, and help you regain focus without forcing or holding your breath.

So true and, its about making time for yourself to relax. Allowing yourself to stop and to breathe, love this lesson.
Try this if you are waking up in the night.
Waking up at 3:00 am and struggling to get back to sleep is completely normal, but it can feel incredibly frustrating. In this video, we explore the Golden Ratio breathwork technique (4-7-8) to help slow your heart rate, calm your nervous system, and let you drift peacefully back off to sleep. We also look at why your mindset matters in the middle of the night, why you should pause rather than hold your breath, and how a genuine smile can reset your state.
