Cherokee 235/Dakota?
My first love is the Cessna 182. Unfortunately a lot of pilots feel the same way and the prices are crazy. I’ve been wondering if the 235/Dakota would be a good alternative. Anyone have input on them? https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?make=PIPER&model_group=PIPER+DAKOTA+SERIES&model=DAKOTA&listing_id=2451269&s-type=aircraft

Nice bird @Josh Denny The low wing means you don't need a ladder when fueling. Maybe or maybe not a big deal depending on how spry you are. lol Radio stack looks good and since it's already installed, it's a lot cheaper than if you did the upgrades yourself. Watch the 155 nav/com. Great radio but the displays are some kind of gas tube which doesn't have replacement parts of they burn out. There are places that can update but then your bird is down while the radios are getting repaired. The engine is fairly low time since the overhaul in '93 which means it's been sitting. Watch for corrosion on the internals. And I'm sure that @Kerry Emmert will have a ton more thoughts on this bird. Good luck with it. She looks like a nice machine. :)

@Josh Denny Very welcome. Yes, a partnership sounds like a great way to own a bird like that without the sticker shock. Have fun. :)
New members: what planes and mission are you looking for?
Post here and I will break down the plane for sale on trade a plane / facebook listing.

Well, I have lots of airplanes so that's not really an issue. As for missions, my main one is just getting in the air for a new adventure. I want to do a charity flight this spring and am planning on getting my Spitfire replica back and operational so I can display it at an airshow this summer.

@Kerry Emmert No worries. I just thought I'd toss it in for conversation. Have you ever looked at some of the kit builts for sale? Some of the Van's products are really top shelf and can compete with the best certified birds out there for speed, range and payload. One gent in my community is building a Velocity which is also a pretty quick bird.

Cool bird @Kerry Emmert so with a V tail like this, what would you be looking for in the logs? AD’s? deferred maintenance? Etc?
Retract or Fixed Gear?
I have owned two airplanes: a Piper Cherokee 140 and a Piper Cherokee 235. Both of which are fixed gear airplanes. I would like to go faster and it strikes me that one way to do that is to get landing gear out of the airflow creating drag. I spoke with a guy across the way from me at our airport, and he said, "Stay away from retracts. You can go fast with fixed gear. But then you don't have to pay the maintenance on the retracts which has been - by a large margin - the most expensive part of maintaining any of the airplanes I've owned. I just won't buy retracts any more." I wonder what other's experience is with that.

Hi Mark. What do you consider fast? My RV6 trues at 160 Kts and its fixed gear. Now the issue there is that you're getting into amateur built but depending on who built it, there are many used amateur builts out there that are well crafted, fast and clean and give you a lot of benefits that certified doesn't have. Just a thought. :)
