Congratulations on starting your martial arts journey, @Damien Murray , and on achieving your yellow belt, that’s a fantastic milestone . I’ve been training for many years and now teach full time, and the best advice I can give is: Consistency beats intensity, focus on showing up regularly rather than pushing yourself too hard too fast. That’s how you’ll build a strong foundation and avoid burnout. Listen to your body, martial arts will test you, but if you feel pain that doesn’t feel right, take the time to rest and recover. Longevity comes from respecting your body’s limits. Strengthen & stretch, even a simple routine of mobility drills, core work, and stretching will protect your joints and prevent common injuries. Stay curious, motivation stays high when you approach training with a beginner’s mindset. Keep asking questions, enjoy small improvements, and celebrate the little wins. Enjoy the journey, belts are milestones, but the real growth comes from the lessons on the mats and the people you meet along the way. You’re setting a great example for your kids by training alongside them, that’s something really special. Keep enjoying the process, and the results will take care of themselves
