Question for experienced martial artists
I started JuJutso 5 months back just after my 2 children enrolled. It’s the first martial art I’ve ever been exposed to and it’s been eye-opening, a window into a different world. I’m absolutely loving the challenge and just graded successfully to yellow belt. It’s promising to be a really interesting journey. The question I wanted to ask of those that have been training for years is; what advice would you give to someone just starting out, especially in regards to preventing injury and maintaining the body and motivation?

@Hakan Manav I completely agree—especially when it comes to listening to your body. After a workout, most younger people can recover within a couple of days. As we age, recovery tends to take longer. For middle-aged adults, it may take 3 to 5 days, while older practitioners might need up to a week. If recovery consistently takes longer than that, it could be a sign to take a break or reassess your training approach. For many adults in desk-bound jobs, extended periods of sitting and limited movement gradually contribute to muscular imbalances and weakness. These subtle changes can interfere with the execution of martial arts techniques and, if not addressed, may heighten the risk of injury. As we age, prioritizing recovery, mobility, and strength maintenance becomes not just beneficial—but essential.
Conducted My First Training Session According to my Week 2 Plan
I hatched an idea on Sunday to reach out to the Physio studio that helped with my recovery from my torn meniscus, and contacted them on Monday to see if they were open to the idea of my short introductory class on TKD for their staff, avoiding their clients under the obvious issues of liability and short notice. I got a positive response Monday Afternoon, and went in Today to train two of their students who volunteered to participate this afternoon around 2pm. recorded, edited and submitted this evening. PHEW ..... !

Hi All, I'm a 2nd Dan Black Belt with AMA since 2019, based in Roselands. I'm always eager to deepen my knowledge and skills in martial arts, and I believe one of the best ways to grow is by helping guide others on their journey.

Hi @Mark Loughran, I was wondering if there are any physical activities requiring access to training space. If so, would attending AMA in Marrickville be more appropriate?
