Crazed and Confused?
Hello all. Crazing can be a confusing glaze problem, and there are a lot of myths out there regarding its causes. (Just like a lot of glaze defects) I can explain it, but if you want the experts, you can't do any better than the Ceramics Materials Workshop. Here, they provide a short lesson on crazing, its causes, the myths surrounding it, and the chemistry that causes it... yes, always. It's very short; just over 12 minutes. It's also free, so please watch: https://youtu.be/NkNda1R-xro?si=iV-AMlQBlMQWRlPf

Whoot! That's great!
Has anyone here tried Kintsugi?
I was gifted a Kintsugi kit at Christmas and I’m finally ready to give it a go. I’ve got three plates I’m considering using it on and would love any tips, hints, or things you wish you’d known before starting. If you’ve tried it before, I’d absolutely love to see photos of your pieces too 👀 In my last kiln opening, I had two plates crack quite badly—both broke in half. I’d love to keep them as glaze references, so I’m hoping to repair them so they’re complete and safe to handle rather than sharp. However there are also some additional cracks visible on the back, so I’m wondering… 👉 Do I leave those as they are? 👉 Or is it better to break the piece further so I can repair everything properly? I've seen recommendations to sand the joins significantly before starting the process- is this to make sure that there is sufficient room for the glue to 'fill' a crack? Ive got visions it wont all align up afterwards! LOL I also have a little trinket dish that Nat at MudMagic sent to me which broke in transit so want to try to repair - but I don't want to mess it up! I’d be really interested to hear how well these kits actually work in practice if anyone has used them before. It comes with a two part glue, and three metallic powders. Any advice, experience, or photos would be amazing 💛

@Angela Petty I'm finding that my brain has delusions of pottery grandeur lately.
Hey guys… I can’t quite believe I’m typing this…
I’ve got a kiln opening on YouTube tonight 🥹💛 Honestly… it felt SO strange filming it. I was stood there thinking “how do I even do this again?!” 😅 I felt really anxious beforehand, completely rusty, and at times my words just would not come out how they normally do. There are definitely moments where I’m like… who is this woman and what is she trying to say 😂 So yes… presentation-wise it might be my most “rusty Jeanette” video to date… BUT thankfully I was really happy with what came out of the kiln, which is the main thing! I genuinely have no idea what the algorithm is going to do with it after being away for so long — it might just quietly disappear into the YouTube abyss — but I wanted to share it with you all because you’ve been such a huge part of this journey. Being on the other side of everything now still feels surreal. It’s definitely shifted my mindset, and I’m just so, so grateful — for my family, for this community, and for being able to be back in the studio doing what I love again 💛 The video will be available to watch at 6pm UK time — I’ll pop a link below that should show it in your own timezone (thank you Gwen for that little gem!) Hope it works! <t:1776272400:F> And… if you do fancy giving the algorithm a little nudge for me, a like/comment on the video would mean the world 💛And if anyone happens to have any Hypes left and feels like using one… I think it helps?! 😂 (still figuring that one out!) ** Have any of you ever had that “first time back” feeling after a break? It really threw me! ** Big love to you all https://youtu.be/yttFNeltXRU?si=ENTGUDlAeZsLuuYQ

Hi Jeanette! I think the timestamps only work in Discord, but you could also post your upcoming kiln opening there! And when I see it, I'll add it to mine!
