If we build it will you come?
I’ve been reaching out to to: - RYA instructors - Sailmakers - Riggers - Meteorologist - Examiners - Surveyors And even some kick ass adventure sailors. Now… If we put together guest AMA’s, interviews, and lectures, virtually over Zoom, would you even bother attending? Would free and exclusive content like this even be useful to you? Nice! 20% of the group voted yes. That’s a good indicator that these are somthing we’d like to see. Keep your eyes peeled 👀 G
The meaning behind Sailing
When you hear or see someone that is a sailor. What goes through your mind? A lay about wanting everthing free and given to them .OR someone standing on there own come 'Hell or High Water.' Someone self sufficient and a believer in their dreams .

I see someone that I want to have a beer with 😂 I certainly don’t see them as wanting everything for free - everything is earned with sailing. ⛵️ I do see someone that is a problem solver, slightly nuts, and doesn’t mind living on island time.
Safety is paramount
When you think of safety on your boat what comes to mind first? I think my pre-check list must be done so all are done before setting sail. What is your procedure? Here is a sample:-

Off the top of my head a crew safety briefing likely would include: - Location of firefighting equipment. - Alarms. - Life jackets worn at all times when on deck. - Gas safety. - Using the DSC button. - 3 points of contact. - Always strap in at night. - How to start the engine. - Dealing with sea sickness. - Location of grab bag. - MOB recovery equipment and procedure. - Reminder to stay hydrated. - Standing orders for when skipper is off watch. - Seacocks. - Passage plan overview. I might have missed something important. G

@Doug Rutherford that’s a good shout.
No Place Like Home ⛵️
Where is everyone from and what is the best thing about sailing in your area? I’m a lucky man. Living in the south east coast of England we have stunning white cliffs, tons of wildlife and a ship ton of diverse ports, including French ports, often only a day sail away. Strong tidal streams and large tidal ranges paired up a busy shipping channel about 10nm offshore makes for an amazing training ground and quality sailing. I’d love to hear about your local haunts. What do you love about your area? Cheers, G

@Doug Rutherford I loved visiting Halifax. Lobster and all the Bloods Caesars you can muster 🤣 Also visited St John’s. Lovely places.

@Doug Rutherford that sounds pretty awesome to me.
Meteorology Lectures
Since work is preventing me from sailing at the moment, I’ve been brushing up on meteorology. I have learned a lot from this set of lectures and the history of meteorology and sailing was super cool. They are in Spanish with English subtitles but well worth going through if this is something you want to dive into. Best part… The lectures are free to watch. https://www.coursera.org/learn/meteorology?action=enroll
