Oh my goodness... where do I even begin? 😂
This community has grown so much over the last few months, and I suddenly realized... I never actually told you who I am! So... hi! I'm Jennifer, and I'm writing from a little town near Barcelona, Spain. 🇪🇸 I'm an American who was born and raised in Mexico City, and these days I live just outside Barcelona, Spain, with my husband, our three children, a dog, a cat, a uromastyx, and a ball python. Needless to say... our house is never boring! 😂 I've been teaching English for more than 20 years, but here's something that usually surprises people... I hated school. Not learning—I loved learning. I hated that school often expected everyone to learn the same way. I was fascinated by questions like... Why do some children thrive while others struggle? How does the brain actually learn? What makes a lesson unforgettable? Those questions led me to study Educational Psychology at Endicott College in Boston, and they've shaped every classroom I've ever taught. Sixteen years ago, I opened my own language school in Spain. I thought I'd probably spend the rest of my career happily teaching English. Then, in February 2022, everything changed. A friend in Ukraine asked if I could teach a few children online. Of course I said yes. I never imagined that one class would grow into Teachers for Peace. Today, we're a global community of volunteer educators who have delivered more than 3,750 free online lessons to 700+ learners, supported by 70+ volunteer teachers across 20+ countries. Some of our teachers live in countries affected by war. Some teach in rural communities. Some work in public schools, language schools, or universities. Others have retired but still want to make a difference. What connects us isn't where we come from—it's what we believe. That education changes lives. And that teachers have an incredible ability to create hope, confidence, and opportunity. That's why I wanted to create this Hub. Not another place filled with endless notifications or perfect-looking classrooms.

I never heard of a uromastyx until just now. lol Thanks for sharing @Teachers-Educators for Peace Global Community Hub I love your journey and story. It's funny how life puts us exactly where we need to be. Huge congrats on the growth of Teachers for Peace. I hope one day to make an impact also :) I'm Grace from UK, but I'm living on a farm in the Philippines with my 4 dogs. I taught in classrooms for 12 years, then took a break to discover who I was outside of education. I never could have foreseen it, but Life took me to a temple in Thailand where I spent 6 months training in concentration with monks. After that, my journey into meditation and the inner workings of the mind began. Since then, I've lived in other temples, taught emotional intelligence and attention skills to kids and deepened my own practise. Now, I'm setting up a Skool community to help teachers overcome distraction in their classrooms. It's scary because I'm right at the beginning, but also exciting to see where this could lead. Lastly, my favourite thing about teaching is the transformations we see as teachers. I love the "ah-ha" moments, or when a kid breaks through a personal barrier. Money can't buy those moments :)

@Amy Nguyen Thank you @Amy Nguyen 😍
🌎 Take us into your classroom...
Imagine all of us have just walked through your classroom door. What's the first thing we'd notice? 👀 The walls? 🎒 The students? 📚 The books? ☕ The coffee on your desk? 😂 The noise? Tell us about your classroom. What makes it uniquely yours? We have teachers here from all over the world, and I think we can learn just as much from each other's classrooms as we can from each other's lesson plans.

I work from home, so you'd see a desk in front of open doors, palm trees, and mountains. And then my four dogs sleeping next to me :)
